A Union man has been charged with escape after he walked off a work crew on Highway 16 on Saturday morning, the authorities said.

The man, Mitchell Allen Bounds, 23, 11931 Road 355, Union, has been charged with escape, possession of a controlled substance and a warrant for failure to appear in court.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said Bounds was on a work crew on Highway 16 north on April 13, just past Road 553 when he escaped into a nearby wooded area. Clark said they believe he escaped between 9 a.m and 9:30 a.m.

Deputies later encountered Bounds while patrolling East Myrtle Street just behind the Valley View Shopping Center at about 2 p.m. that day. The deputies made contact with Bounds and brought him back into custody.

Clark said Bounds was initially arrested on Friday at about 2 p.m. for misdemeanor charges and never posed a serious threat.
