High-speed chase ends with arrest
A Philadelphia man wanted for eluding law enforcement after leading them on a lengthy high-speed chase through town was arrested at the Dancing Rabbit Inn in the early morning hours last Wednesday.
The suspect, Jehovah Dixon, 24, 100 Sistrunk Avenue, faces charges of felony fleeing, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and numerous traffic violations, according to Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark.
Dixon was suspected of stealing a rental car, a gray Hyundai Elantra with a Florida license plate, from the Pearl River Resort, Clark said.
Deputies first spotted Dixon in the suspect vehicle in the Walmart parking lot on June 3 at about 7:30 p.m. Clark said the vehicle had registered on a license plate reader in the area.
Clark said Dixon fled as soon as he was aware he had been spotted by law enforcement.
He turned onto Highway 15 north at Tolbert’s Chevrolet and continued north before turning right onto Gum Street. After turning onto Gum Street, Clark said Dixon turned onto Carter Avenue and continued to Ivy Street.
From Ivy Street, the suspect used Kosciusko Road to turn left onto Pecan Avenue and continued north until he reached Highway 15 and headed south.
Due to traffic, Clark said deputies in pursuit briefly lost Dixon’s vehicle. Investigators believe Dixon exited Highway 15 on Road 387 before running into a dead end at the end of Road 1343 behind B&G Equipment. Clark said the whole chase went for about eight miles.
Clark said Dixon fled on foot into the woods. Deputies deployed the department’s drone, and the Choctaw Police Department brought a search dog.
Clark said in addition to CPD, the Philadelphia Police Department assisted with the search.
During a lengthy search that lasted until the early morning hours of June 4, Clark said they found a white rubber glove containing roughly 13 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine, a key fob for the car, Dixon’s cell phone and other miscellaneous items.
A search was conducted of the surrounding area throughout the night until around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, when the Choctaw Police received a tip regarding Dixon's whereabouts.
Dixon was successfully apprehended at the Dancing Rabbit Inn and booked into the Choctaw Detention Facility.
Clark said Dixon faces charges for the stolen car through Choctaw Police but also faces holds from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Neshoba County Sheriff`s Office, and the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
