Two people have been arrested on meth and other charges following a high-speed chase that ran about 25 miles through Leake and Neshoba counties Saturday night.

Dayna King Clemons, 31, of 137 Odie Jim Road, Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, DUI, felony pursuit, resisting arrest/obstructing justice, disorderly conduct, careless driving and failure to yield to blue lights.

Shane King, 35, of 657 Mills Road, Conehatta, was arrested and charged with felony pursuit, possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and contempt of court.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said the pair was arrested on April 23, around 11 p.m.

Clark said the pursuit began earlier that evening around 10:30 p.m. on Black Jack Road off of Highway 16 west in Neshoba County when deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on 2021 Toyota Tacoma. He said his deputies reported seeing the truck make an improper turn and was going to check and see if they were lost.

Deputies then observed the occupants of the truck throw two small baggies out the window. They were then lead on a chase spanning roughly 25 miles that meandered through dirt roads and main thoroughfares on the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indian Reservation, Leake County and Neshoba County.

Clark said that deputies were able to maneuver in front of the vehicle and deploy spike strips to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Road 339 and Road 488. Clark said the pursuit continued after the truck’s tires were shredded for about five miles on Road 339 until the driver crashed the truck in a ditch.

Deputies then attempted to restrain both the driver and the passenger, who were disorderly. Clark said that Clemons was the driver and King the passenger.

Clark said that his deputies executed a “textbook pursuit” in the way they got ahead of the truck and deployed the spike strips. Clark said the highest speed recorded from the pursuit was 90 miles an hour on Highway 16.

After retracing the path of the chase, deputies were able to locate two bags with a felony amount of methamphetamine.
