Gipson Cleaners reopens as Beacon Street Cleaners
Beacon Street Cleaners, formerly Gipson Cleaners, opened on Tuesday, filling a gap left since early summer when the city lost its only dry cleaners.
A ribbon-cutting with food and refreshments is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. The new owners also plan to introduce promotions and incentives as the business gains momentum in the future.
The new owners are Danial Zahid, Dylan Goines, and Zach Barnett. They say they are excited about reintroducing the cleaners to the community and have hired Christy Baysinger as general manager.
“It feels good,” Zahid said. “The most excitement came from everybody reaching out and the support we have been getting. We didn’t expect it was this important to the community at first, but about a week into people finding out we were purchasing it, we started getting phone calls with support. It means a lot.”
The team undertook significant renovations to restore equipment that had worn out under the previous owners. They regreased machinery, replaced parts, and installed a new boiler—the heart of the operation—which had gone out.
The delay in reopening was largely due to the boiler replacement, a major project necessary to restore efficient operations. Goines said that they also focused on updating the lobby to create a more inviting atmosphere.
“We wanted an updated feel, so we went with gold accents to make you feel like you’re in a premium hotel lobby,” he said.
The idea to co-own the business serendipitously arose when the friends gathered at Barnett’s shop one evening. Each had already independently scheduled a visit to the cleaners, unaware of the interest the others had.
While each of the new owners runs their own local business—Zahid with The Spot Convenience, Barnett with Elite Collision & Automotive Accessories, and Goines with Promotional Laser Works—they share a commitment to ensuring the community’s satisfaction with Beacon Street Cleaners.
“Christy has been up here helping us get this whole operation ready,” Barnett said. “From ceiling tiles to plug-ins and floors, she’s been a part of revamping this place and getting it up to date. By letting her run it, I believe the community will be happy and continue to support us.”
