General election set for Tuesday
The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Absentee voting is available at the Circuit Clerk’s office during regular hours this week and through Saturday, from 8 a.m. until noon.
Neshoba County residents so far have requested 70 absentee votes by mail. During the 2020 election, the county recorded a total of 11,766 ballots cast, including 1,430 absentee votes.
County residents will vote in School Board elections for District 3 and District 4. Incumbents Jimmie Joyner (District 3) and V. Wyatt Waddell (District 4) are both unopposed.
On the national stage, voters will choose between several candidates in the presidential election and congressional races.
Former Republican President Donald Trump is running with U.S. Senator J.D. Vance as his V.P. pick, while Democrat Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States, has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
There are numerous third party candidates on the ballot.
In the U.S. Senate race, Democrat Ty Pinkins will face off against Republican incumbent Roger F. Wicker.
Republican Michael Guest is running unopposed in the U.S. House in the 3rd Congressional District.
The state Supreme Court race includes Jenifer Branning of Neshoba County, Byron Carter, Ceola James, Jim Kitchens, and Abby Gale Robinson, while Jack Wilson is running unopposed in the state Court of Appeals District 3 Position 1 race.
For local Election Commissioner races, Sherry Nance (District 1) and Joseph Dewayne Sharp (District 3) are running unopposed, while Charlene Kirksey and Democrat Teresa Clemons Slaughter will compete for the District 5 seat.
