Incumbent Mayor James A. Young has qualified for re-election, along with Republican challenger Jim Fulton and another Democrat.

Municipal elections are June 3. Party primaries are April 1.  The deadline to quality is 5 p.m. on Friday.

As of noon Tuesday, Young faced Democrat challenger Leroy Clemons in the primary and Fulton, current Ward 2 Alderman, in the general election.

In Ward 1, Democrat Avia J. Jackson will face Republican primary winner Cody Pilgrim or Bert Turcotte. Incumbent Justin Clearman announced he was not seeking re-election.

In Ward 2, Democrat Zaus Dion Kirkland has qualified, as has Republican Bill Griffis.

In Ward 3, incumbent Alderman James A. Tatum Sr. is seeking re-election as a Democrat. He was facing Democrat challenger Darnell Horne at press time.

In Ward 3, Kenneth L. “Kenny” Hillman, Brad Smith, and Phillip Smith have qualified as Republicans.

In Ward 4, incumbent Alderman Shaun Seales, running as an Independent, is seeking re-election and was unopposed at press time.

Incumbent Alderman-at-Large James Waltman, a Republican, has qualified but had no challenger as of press time.

The deadline to register to vote in the primaries is March 3.  The deadline to register to vote in the general election is May 5.
