November 27, 1942
Cpl. James E. Tullos, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.F. Tullos, of Philadelphia, wrote this month from Tulagi Island in the Solomons, saying that he was “well and happy.” This is the first time since Cpl. Tullos enlisted in July that his family has known where he was stationed.
November 29, 1952
Tom DeWeese of Philadelphia has been appointed one of the 16 district chairman of the January, 1952 March of Dimes Campaign; according to an announcement made by Dr. Felix J. Underwood, state chairman and state health officer. Mr. DeWeese will serve as liaison between Dr. Underwood and the campaign directors in the counties in his district.

The 12 Heart Fund Workshop held a meeting and the following attended: Clarence Mitchell, Neshoba County Heart Fund Chairman, Philadelphia; Dr. L.O. Todd, Chairman District 12, Meridian; Tally Riddell, Mississippi Heart Association Committee of 100, Quitman; and many others. District 12 is comprised of Neshoba, Kemper, Winston, Clarke, and Lauderdale counties, and the dinner meeting at Weideman’s was a roundtable discussion.

Angie Adams, was named Neshoba County’s new Junior Miss in the annual pageant this week. The first alternate was Sandra Breazeale, second alternate was Susan Mundy. Miss Munday also won the Scholastic award. Ramona Donald was the winner of the talent portion.

The 1995 Class of Union High School met for a reunion. The members of the class are: Nancy James Blackwell, Mobile, Alabama; Angelyn Bradley Love, Long Beach, Miss.; Nan Barrier Stamper, Philadelphia; Betty Chaney Smith, Jackson; Dimple Tidwell Adkins, Philadelphia and many more.
November 27, 1992
A new city judge was appointed this week by the Philadelphia Mayor and Board of Alderman. Following a recommendation by Mayor Harlan Majure, Bobby Anderson was unanimously approved for the position effective in January.
November 27, 2002
Students at Philadelphia High School completed a month-long campaign this week to get their campus litter free. The project included a weigh-in contest that involved all the classes 7-12. A total 1,580 pounds of debris, leaves and litter were collected on the campus and adjacent parking lots. In an effort to keep the campus clean, newly painted garbage cans by Kim Mills’ art classes were distributed around the school by students from Martha Hancock’s math class.

The Ac’cents, East Central Community College’s show choir, will present their fall concert next week, in the Vicker Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Selections include “Beautiful Day” by the Black-Eyed Peas, “Born to be Somebody” by Justin Bieber, and many more.
