November 6, 1942

War Production Board Chairman Donald M. Nelson reported an overall seven per cent increase in munitions production in September over August with sharply higher output in four categories, including a 10 per cent rise in airplanes and a 22 per cent gain in fight ships.        

November 8, 1952

The Philadelphia Home Demonstration Club held its regular meeting last week in the home of Mrs. Foster Powell. The meeting was called to order by the president and the club joined in singing “The Little Brown Church in the Vale”. The devotional was given by Mrs. J.N. Dallas from Nahum.  

      

November 8, 1962

Several improvements to buildings are underway in Philadelphia as old “eye sores” are being removed and new buildings are being constructed or remodeled. The old tin building owned by W.T. Blackwell across from the Chamber of Commerce offices, is being torn down this week to make way for a new structure to house offices.        

November 9, 1972

Maurice Tisdelle, campaign chairman for the United Givers Fund has announced division chairman for the UGF drive now underway. Division chairman and members of their committees are; Commercial Division, Morris Ingram, chairman; Danny Hicks, Vivian Gray, and Max Loper.        

November 11, 1982

Miss Mississippi, Diane Evans, will be the featured entertainment at the 1982 annual banquet of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Chamber of Commerce. The banquet will be at 7 next week in the National Guard Armory on Highway 15 North.      

        

November 6, 1992 

Secretary of State Dick Molpus will speak during the 38th annual banquet of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Chamber of Commerce. The banquet will be held next week in the National Guard Armory beginning at 7. Don Kilgore, 1991 President, will preside over the banquet. Entertainment will be presented by the Philadelphia Jazz Band.

Pvt. Eric Bryan has graduated from basic and AIT training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He is currently stationed at Fort Drum, New York. He is the son of Aaron and Darlene Bryan. He is the grandson of Jackie Drake of Philadelphia and the late H.B. Drake and Gladys Bryan of Philadelphia and the late V.W. Bryan. He is a 2000 graduate of Neshoba Central High School.

Between 1962 and 1967, the boys’ basketball teams at Neshoba Central were among the top teams in Mississippi. During this 5-year span, Neshoba Central boys’ basketball coach, Ken Fortenberry, led his boys to a record 129 wins with only 29 looses. The girls’ and boys’ teams were always supported with fan-packed gyms; sometimes it was standing-room only.
