September 25, 1942

Each of the 33 members of the Philadelphia Business and Professional Women’s Club will make and supply a soldier’s Red Cross ditty bag, it was decided at the Club’s September social meeting held at the Legion Hut. The contribution will fill more than half of the local Chapter’s quota for one month.      

September 27, 1952

Dr. W. A. Land of the Cleveland Community has returned from Memphis where he received a fifty-year certificate from the University of Tennessee, for his years of practice, which have actually been 54 as a country doctor.     

September 27, 1962

Neshoba County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution at their last meeting declaring the intention of the board to issue bonds for $20,000 for road construction and repairs.    

September 28, 1972

Senator John C. Stennis announced that the purposed Edinburg Reservoir on the Pearl River in Neshoba County has cleared another obstacle to final approval when the Senate Public Works Committee agreed to report favorably on the Omnibus Rivers and Harbors Bill which includes the Edinburg Reservoir.      

September 30, 1982

The Choctaw Tribal Government’s National Indian Day Celebration at Pearl River Reservation included a full schedule of events. Among the day’s activities were a fun run, stickball games, and other community competitive events to test the skills and abilities of contestants.             

September 25, 1992 

Weyerhaeuser Company Executive Vice President Charles W. Bingham will give his views on the outlook of the forest products industry in Starkville. Bingham will speak at the National Bank of Commerce’s 1992 Economic Forum. The announcement was made by Lewis F. Mallory Jr., President, and Chief Executive Officer of NBC.       

September 25, 2002

Nathan Oliver Shaw completed the Advanced Individual Training course. PFC Shaw entered the United States Army Reserve in May by entering basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He graduated and entered A.I.T. at Fort Lee, Richmond, Va. He will graduate from Fort Lee this month. Shaw is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Shaw of Philadelphia.

A new ordinance outlining operating hours for transient door-to-door vendors goes into effect following the action by the Philadelphia Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The ordinance will limit the hours of operation for door-to-door vendors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, vendors are not allowed to operate on Sunday.
