June 20, 1942

Corporal Edwin C. Partridge Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Partridge of Philadelphia, made his first solo flight. Corporal Partridge enlisted in the Army Air Corps in June of 1941 and he is now currently stationed in Santa Maria, California.   

June 19, 1952

Miss Jane Todd of Decatur, has been tapped for Mortar Board at the University of Mississippi, along with eight other junior women. Mortar board is the national senior honor society for women students and membership is one of the very highest honors that a student can receive.         

June 21, 1962

Bob McLean, Administrative Officer with the BIA of Philadelphia, was elected President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, at their recent meeting. Many other officers were also elected during their most recent meeting.  

June 22, 1972

Jan Luke, 13 year old, won first place in the District Junior 4-H Contest in the visual presentation in the Horticulture Contest. Jan is a 4-H member of the Bond 4-H Club and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ray Luke. Mrs. James Ray Luke is her 4-H adult leader. 

June 19, 1982

James Mowdy receives a plaque of achievement from Glen Dacus, Fred’s regional manager. Mowdy previously worked under manager, Paul Waldrip in Forest. He is presently employed in Hattiesburg under manager Hoyt Ming. Mowdy is the son of Mrs. Bertie Mae Mowdy and the late H.M. Mowdy.        

      

June 20, 1992 

Brandy Smith, a 10th grader at Neshoba Central High School, has been named a finalist for the State of Mississippi in the America’s National Teenager pageant to be held in Vicksburg. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Smith.

    

June 20, 2002

Private Feldon Jefferson is promoted to private first class and made acting platoon sergeant in the All-Choctaw Company “C”, first brigade, Mississippi State Guard, PFC Jefferson was awarded his new rank by Colonel Marvin McCorkle, commander of the first brigade. 

Neil Pettigrew made his fifth hole-in-one during the evening scramble, at the Philadelphia Country Club. Pettigrew, played with his wife and other team members, made the ace on the 133 yard hole 7 with an eight iron. This was his first hole-in-one at PCC.  

 

June 20, 2012

East Central Community College sophomore, Meghan Johnson received the Roscoe C. Pugh Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship honors the college’s first president, Roscoe Pugh, who served from 1928-1934. 

The Mount Olive District Queen Pageant was held at the Mount Ary Missionary Baptist Church Family Life Center. Mrs. Silvia Rush Moore represented the Mount Ary Church and was elected Queen for the Mount Olive District. Her escort was husband of 44 years, Thermon Moore. She thanked all who supported her in her endeavor to make this reality come to fruition.
