APRIL 3, 1942

The Japanese launched a sudden major offensive into the Shan states of Eastern Burma Wednesday, opening a full-fledged new front to isolate China from Burma and India at a time when British and Chinese alike are fighting a desperate rearguard action to delay the conquest of Central Burma’s oil wealth.

Registration of women in the County for community nutrition classes is now being conducted by the Civilian Defense Center under the direction of Mrs. Virgie Phillips clerk, it was announced this week.   

APRIL 4, 1952

In a series of recent prohibition raids through last Tuesday, city officers made several arrests and confiscated a large assortment of moonshine and liquor and home-brew. In the first raid officers seized six and a half gallons and 23 half pints of moonshine.

Parking meter collections have averaged more than $1,000.00 per month since the meters were installed on the downtown streets of Philadelphia in August, 1950. 

APRIL 3, 1962

According to announcement by the Neshoba County Health Department the Mobile Bus will be on the courthouse square Monday, April 9th from 8:30 until 12 noon, and again that afternoon from 1 until 4:30 p. m.   

  

APRIL 2, 1972

The state convention of the Mississippi Democratic Party will reconvene Saturday. The party will meet at 10 a.m. in the Jackson city auditorium. “All delegates and alternates that were elected at their respective county conventions are encouraged in attendance.”

APRIL 3, 1982

Seven people have been charged with grand larceny in the unrelated robberies of a convenience store, an automobile dealership, and a nightclub during the past week. District Three Justice Court Judge, Vernon Myers will hear eleven non-traffic offense cases in the April 5 term of his court.

      

APRIL 3, 1992

Two West Virginia men with crack cocaine, marijuana, a supply of $100 bills and a gun in their car were arrested Friday by Philadelphia police. Drug Enforcement Officer L. J. Pace said a tip led to the arrest of the 2 ben who were both charged with possession of crack cocaine.     

    

APRIL 4, 2002

A man described by the authorities as perhaps one of the largest dealers of an illegal prescription drug in the state was arrested, along with 14 others, in a pre-dawn raid Friday at a heavily armed communal compound in rural Neshoba County where a variety of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle were confiscated.

 

APRIL 5, 2011

Country Music Star Clint Black will headline the 63rd annual Choctaw Indian Fair, which will also feature other chart-topping artist and Native American Acts. The fair will feature Choctaw tradition and culture at its finest on opening night with the annual Choctaw Indian Princess Pageant where contestants vie for the highly-coveted title.
