MARCH 27, 1942

Stating that oil from peanuts and soybeans is urgently needed in the production of explosives for the war program, T. M. Patterson, State AAA Administrator, addressed a mass meeting attended by approximately 400 farmers in the Courthouse auditorium Friday morning.

The Japanese stepped up the furry of their assault on the Manila Bay area Wednesday, sending over 27 big bombers and lesser aircraft which again concentrated on Corregidor and other bay fortifications.  

MARCH 28, 1952

The annual lady’s night of the Rotary Club will be held at the Golf Club House Thursday night, April 17, according to the President Vernon Gamblin. All members are urged to take note of the date and be present.

MARCH 27, 1962

The Cemetery Committee of Sandtown Methodist Church is directing attention elsewhere in this edition of the paper, to all people who have loved ones buried there, to please come by the cemetery and sink the foot markers, even with the top of the ground.

Dock Savell is calling a meeting of all people interested in the Babe Ruth Baseball League, to meet at the Neshoba County Courtroom Saturday night, March 31st, at 7:30 o’clock. This league will be made up of players thirteen years and over.   

  

MARCH 26, 1972

A Bi-Racial Advisory Committee to the West Side Committee to the West Side Community Center has been organized by the Philadelphia, Neshoba County Park Commission. The Committee has started meetings to work ways to assist the director of the center in making maximum use of the facility.

The regular monthly singing will be at Center Hill Baptist Church on March 25 at 7 p. m. All singers are invited.  

MARCH 27, 1982

A public meeting of citizens interested in halting drug abuse in Neshoba County will be held on March 30 at 7 p. m. in the gymnasium at Neshoba Central High School. The purpose of the meeting will be to organize a Neshoba County Branch of DREAM.

There will be a car wash on Saturday, March 20, at Midland Federal Savings and Loan beginning at 10 AM and going until late that afternoon. The car wash is sponsored by Salem Baptist Church youth group.

      

MARCH 27, 1992

Because of the interest from several major Nashville record labels, Pearl River – a local area band formerly known as the Dean Wooley Band – performed a showcase at Nashville’s 12th and Porter Playroom last week and drew rave reviews for their effort.

The Neshoba County Republican Party will hold its precinct caucuses and county convention on April 18. Precinct caucuses will begin in each precinct at the regular polling place at 10 a. m.    

    

MARCH 27, 2002

Police believe the weekend robberies of a bank and a fast-food restaurant were committed by the same individual. Authorities have video of the suspect, captured in the process of committing the restaurant robbery, and say federal authorities will assist in the investigation by enhancing the video.    

 

MARCH 28, 2011

Three Philadelphia companies and one Tribal entity were the apparent low bidders on some aspects of the new $19 million county hospital. Bids were taken under advisement last week for review by officials of W. G. Yates and Sons Construction Co.

A veteran law enforcement officer will return to the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department as Chief Deputy after he was hired Monday by the Board of Supervisors. Kenny Moore will leave his position as Police Chief in Carthage to become Chief Deputy here on April 26th.
