FEBRUARY 20, 1942

The Philadelphia Exchange Club, recent sponsors of “Birch The Magician” in two performances here, announces a net profit of $32.55, which will be turned over immediately to Mrs. Joe Turner, chairman of the Red Cross fund for armed forces.

Parity and rental checks, combined for the first time, are now being received every few days by the County’s Agent’s office, with a total of $87,575.52 already delivered to 1,794 persons on 276 farms. Rental payments of this amount are $54,919.05 and parity $32,656.48.   

FEBRUARY 21, 1952

The Annual Rally at the Philadelphia High School Thursday night was one of the finest points of quality of performance and spirit and with one of the largest crowns in attendance in the history of the organizations.

Washington presents the Jackson College A ’Capella Choir of Jackson Mississippi, under the direction of Edgar Rogie Clark, offers a concert that will delight the soul because of its quality, rarely heard, resonance and color throughout its large range of the song. 

FEBRUARY 20, 1962

A panel of three local citizens will appear on WTOK-TV Saturday afternoon from 5:45 to 6:00 on behalf of the $800,000 bond election here next Tuesday for U. S. Electrical Motors. Mayor AB Davis Harbour, Chamber of Commerce President Pete Rhymes and Industrial Committee Chairman Vernon Gamblin will conduct a question and answer program over the station to inform local voters of the benefits to be derived by voting for the issue.

  

FEBRUARY 19, 1972

Both Neshoba teams captured the District IV-AA championship. The Rockettes won their title by defeating Louisville girls 52-51 and the Rockets obtained their crown by defeating Louisville boys 78-60.

Two Neshoba County men were elected to key positions at the Fourth Congressional District caucus of the Mississippi Democratic Party Saturday at Forest.

The boards of supervisors of Newton and Neshoba Counties have announced a $180,000 school bond issue election for March 2.    

FEBRUARY 20, 1982

In the three years or so since the Philadelphia Neshoba County Arts Council was formed, it has provided a wide range of excellent programs and events for the public. The Arts Council has been well worth the effort in terms of the artistic dividends it has paid.

Farmers in the three East Mississippi counties including Neshoba are eligible for disaster relief loans due to severe drought in 1981 Senator Thad Cochran announced.   

      

FEBRUARY 19, 1992

The newest industry of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians First American Printing and Direct Mail was formally introduced to the public at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday at Moss Point.

Neshoba County Cattlemen’s Association has been named the outstanding county cattlemen’s association for 1991 by the Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association.

A Mississippi artist with a rapidly growing reputation for her portraits displayed some of her work here, including portraits, displayed some of her work here, including a portrait of Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf that was commissioned by the American Red Cross.   

    

FEBRUARY 21, 2002

A 40-bed addition to the Neshoba County Nursing Home, which includes a wing for Alzheimer’s patients, is expected to open in October, the facility’s administrator said Monday.

The Tribe’s second gaming venture, the Golden Moon hotel, and casino, is under construction across the highway from Silver Star.

Neshoba County’s new sheriff, Tommy Waddell, has pledged to be a hands-on officer with an open door policy as he works to combat drugs and an increasing number of thefts among other crimes.
