JANUARY 30, 1942

The February quota of tires to be sold in Neshoba County was received by the Local Rationing Board this week as follows: 18 truck tires, 32 truck tubes; 9 passenger car tires, 7 passenger car tubes. Tires are now being distributed according to schedule at the rate of about 25 percent of the quota each week.

Selective service registration of men aged 20 through 44 will be conducted on Monday. February 16, between the hours of 7:00 A. M. and 9:00 P. M., Dr. C. C. Davis, chairman of the local draft board, reminded Neshoba Countians this week.    

JANUARY 32, 1952

Representative Henry Kennedy received appointment on five important committees of the House of Representatives, last week when Speaker Walter Siller announced his appointments. 

The regular monthly Farm Bureau meeting is to be held Monday night, February 4, at 7:00 P. M. at the courthouse in Philadelphia. All Farm Bureau members are urged to be present. It is hoped with their husbands, since a program will be presented, which will be of interest to the entire family.  

JANUARY 30, 1962

The Philadelphia High School Band will present their annual March of Dimes Concert in the Philadelphia High School Auditorium, Sunday February 11th at 2:30 o’clock, under the direction of Victor W. Zajec.

The Riverside Chemical Company of Marks, Miss recently bought the Supreme Feed and Fertilizer Company here and they are now open and ready for business. Extensive repair work is now going on in the building, and Emmitt Hardy, who was formerly employed by Supreme Feed and Fertilizer is local manager of the new business.    

  

JANUARY 28, 1972

Sheriff Melton Bounds said that 95 half-pints of alcoholic beverages were seized in a raid in the Dixon Community Wednesday. Sidney Pullen was charged with illegal possession of intoxicating beverages. Bounds said there were 57 half-pints of Old Charter bourbon whiskey and 38 half pints of vodka. 

The Philadelphia High School in co-operation with the Neshoba County General Hospital will sponsor a Vocational Health Education Course in Nurse’s Aide Training beginning Feb. 21. This class will be for men and women between the ages of 18 and 50.    

JANUARY 30, 1982

Both civil and criminal cases will be heard in three-week term of Neshoba County circuit court begins Monday. Judge Marcus D. Gordon of Union was to schedule the 15 criminal and 54 civil cases on the docket Thursday.

Secondary of Education Lamar Alexander praised the Choctaw Tribal Council’s educational improvement program called Choctaw 2000 in Washington Thursday. In a speech pledging the Bush administration’s support for improving educational opportunities for native Americans.

A trip community leaders planning to take to a Nissan plant in Tennessee could be crucial to securing a supplier to a $1 billion facility the automaker has under construction near Canton, an associate with a Philadelphia contractor who is managing that work says.

A complaint was aired before the Philadelphia Mayor and Board of Alderman last week over the physical condition of the old Booker T. Washington School and Gym and why the facility has not been turned over to a state agency apparently willing to make improvements.
