JANUARY 9, 1942

Hoover Edwards, Philadelphian, is scheduled to leave Maxwell Field, Montgomery, Alabama, soon to be one of the primary flying schools in the southeast for the first phase of his pilot training.  Cadet Edwards, a former student at East Central Junior College at Decatur, has been at the replacement Center at Maxell Field since before Christmas.   

JANUARY 10, 1952

Dr. Jerome Daly, son of Mr. and Mrs. F.B. Daly of Philadelphia, accepted a position on the staff of the East Mississippi State Hospital in Meridian. Dr. Daly attended grammar and high school in Philadelphia and graduated from Holy Cross College in New Orleans. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and received his M.D. from Northwestern.   

JANUARY 11, 1962

The announcement carrying the Heart Fund Workers carried the name of Jack Tannehill, as chairman of the City of Philadelphia, and it should have listed the name of Jack Stribling as City of Philadelphia chairman. A.D. Bowman, should have read C.P. Bowman as chairman of the Queen of Hearts Drive for the County School.    

    

JANUARY 13, 1972

Mrs. Charles Shumake of 527 Center Avenue has been selected as the “Most Individually Involved Clubwoman of the Year” by the members of the Futura Club, a Mississippi Federated Woman’s Club. Mrs. Shumake, is current President of the club. She is a teacher of an adult Sunday School Class and leader of an adult Training Union group at the First Baptist Church.   

JANUARY 14, 1982

Hugh Brown, accepts a plaque and a check for $500 from Jack Warren, chairman of the Wildlife committee of the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts. Brown was named the second place winner of the 1981 MACD statewide contest.      

JANUARY 15, 1992

The Neshoba Central FFA recently completed in Federation contest at West Lauderdale. The Opening and Closing Team placed first. The team members are; Sandy Jenkins, Penny Jenkins, Brandy Russell, Advsior- Mr. Suttle, Cooper Breazeale, John Branning, Jason Mayo, Shelby Beason, and David Kennedy.   

    

JANUARY 16, 2002

Helen and Percy Barrett grew these enormous cabbages in their garden in the Good Hope Community. Mrs. Barrett holds one that weighed 8 ½ pounds while the one Mr. Barrett is holding weighed 6 pounds. 

 

JANUARY 17, 2011

Sarah Elizabeth Milliem is the 9 year old daughter of Crystal Miles Milliem of Philadelphia and Ron Milliem of Lancaster, Pa. She was recognized as Student of the Month at Hamilton Elementary in Lancaster, Pa. for the month of October. Milliem is also on the fourth grade honor roll and a member of the Lancaster Jr., tornado Cheerleading Squad. Proud grandparents are; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Miles of Philadelphia and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pfiefer of Freedom, Pa.
