JULY 11, 1941

Arwilma Thrash, 19 year old 4-H Club member from the Bloomo Community, was elected Governor of the annual 4-H Club Camp held at Choctaw Lake. A total of 101 boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 21 attended the camp.

JULY 5, 1951

Holding forth for Philadelphia at the Meridian Invitational Golf Tournament was; Edwin Deweese and Charles Mars, who won the second and fifth flights.

JULY 6, 1961

Philadelphia’s new mayor, Ab Davis Harbour, has taken his oath into office by Chancery Clerk I.D. (Bud) Darby, during the ceremonies at the City Hall. Mayor Harbour, along with four members of the City Council were sworn in to serve the next four years.    

JULY 9, 1971

First place district winners, Gwen Richardson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Richardson, and Winnie Fay Driskell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O’Conna Driskell were first place winners in the Southeast District 4-H Foods and Nutrition Team Visual Presentation.

JULY 2, 1981

Jack Rhea Tannehill, editor of The Union Appeal, has been named President of the Mississippi Press Association, succeeding Marie Harris Luke of West Point. Tannehill is the son of Mrs. Jack L. Tannehill of Philadelphia and the late Mr. Tannehill, former editor of The Democrat.

JULY 3, 1991

Neshoba County 4-H’ers, Wade Pilgrim and Ike Melton show TRF MS. Brandy. Ike won Grand Champion Cow at the Ms. Brahman Breeders Field Day with her at Raleigh.

JULY 4, 2001

Leah Dennis recently participated in the oil and acrylics competition at the State Jr. Beta Convention in Biloxi and placed second. She was also invited to attend the National Convention where she received a certificate of participation.

 

JULY 6, 2011

The Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy presented Dana Apperson with her new Certified Public Accountant license during a recent ceremony held at the State Capitol. Apperson holds a master of taxation from Mississippi State University and is employed with Watkins, Ward and Stafford PLLC. She is the daughter of Alvis and Vivian Apperson of Philadelphia.
