MAY 16, 1941

Young Edith Johnson went to the college boys and did one better- she swallowed a live frog. The 14 year old from Ligonier, Pennsylvania, found the young frog in her backyard and showed it to her school. When she showed it to her classmates, one of them said that she could not swallow the frog alive. Edith said that she could so she wrapped the frog up in a paper towel and gulped it down. She won 50 cents from it. 

MAY 10, 1951

These four boys were among the top four in number of points earned in the contest which has been taking place throughout this school year. Points were given on a merit basis and the winners won trips to the Camp of the Ozarks Band Camp this summer. The boys are; John McCauley, Bob Hand, Sonny Steel, and Charles Carter. 

Dr. Jimmie Barfoot, has been named editor of the “Chiropractic News'', the state paper edited by the Chiropractors Association of Mississippi. Dr. Barfoot was honored at the annual meeting which was held in Jackson.

 MAY 11, 1961

The Junior Lydian Music Club met last week and the officers for the new year were elected. The new officers are; Amaryllis griffin, 1st Vice President, Carolyn Thornton; 2nd Vice President; Beverly Cronkhite, 3rd Vice President; Rebecca Brantley, 4th Vice President; Martha Cronkhite, secretary; Leora Geer, treasurer; June Taylor, corresponding secretary; Emma Atkinson, reporter; John McCauley, scrapbook; Patricia Geer assistant; and Gail Deweese.     

MAY 14, 1971

J.C. Williamson of Philadelphia, Governor of District 30-E, Lions International, presents the charter for the new Madden Lions Club to Jim Davidson, club president. The people present are; Aubrey Green of York, Alabama, past president of Lions International, who was speaker at the charter night dinner, and Hubert Hodgins, president of the Philadelphia Lions Club, which sponsored the new club. 

MAY 7, 1981

Ramona Pullin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Pullin of the Dixon Community, has been named Valedictorian. Ramona has served as class officer and has been a member and officer of the Student Council. Salutatorian is Greg Henley, son of Rev. and Mrs. Bobby Jack Henley of the Bethsadia Community. Greg served as President of FFA during his senior year. He is alo a member of the Library Club, Beta Club, and Bible Club.  

MAY 15, 1991

Kyle Stribling of Neshoba Central Elementary School, received first place award in Class C division I, at Mississippi Federation Women's Club State Pennies for Art Contest. Kyle, a second grader, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Stribling and was sponsored by the MFWC Futura Club.

 MAY 9, 2001

Philadelphia High School baseball standout, Ty Culpepper signs a scholarship with East Central Community College. The people present are; his parents, Tanya and Don Culpepper, ECCC Assistant Coach, Jake Yarbrough, and Philadelphia Head Coach, Scott Hill.

MAY 11, 2011 

The County Line Volunteer Fire Department recently recognized Lemuel Williams, for 25 years of service to the County Line Volunteer Fire Department. He has been with the department since it began in 1986 and will be retiring from service. Fire Chief Ronald Gardner presented him a plaque recognizing his service to the community.

Neshoba Central High School has announced its Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the graduating class. The Valedictorian will be Marlee Deanne Williams. She is the daughter of Myron and Loretta Williams of the Ocobla Community. Haden Johnson, son of Don and Teresa Johnson, has also been named Salutatorian.
