MAY 9, 1941

Mr. P.E. Walker has accepted a road position with The Cole Bros. Co., wholesale grocers of Philadelphia. He will succeed Mr. Clyde Everett. Mr. Walker, wife, and daughter, will move here from Morton. 

Several visitors were present at the Rotary Club including Rev. C.C. Morris and Dr. W.F. Dean, both of Ada, Oklahoma. Rev. Morris closed a series of special serves at the Baptist Church here. Dr. Dean led several Rotary songs, as well as a solo. Rev. Morris made a short talk.

MAY 3, 1951

Little Miss Joyce Anne Tingle, only child of Mrs. Hillman Tingle has the honor of selling the first Buddy Poppy to the city’s mayor, Jimmy Haddock. Mrs. Tingle is President of the Ladies Auxiliary to Carson Bounds Post 4396, and the members will have charge of selling Poppies. 

Pvt. James Orville Kea, is stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana on the 7th of February of this year. He is with the Reg. hg. Co. 112. Pvt. Kea is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kea of Edinburg.

 MAY 4, 1961

Pvt. James H. Cox, who has been in service for sometime, is stationed at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He is the son of Mrs. Kate Cox, who resides in Union.     

MAY 7, 1971

Paul Wilkerson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger H. Wilkerson, has been selected to receive a Presidential Tuition scholarship from Spring Hill College. Mr. and Mrs. Wilkerson are former residents of Shady Grove Community of Neshoba County, but now live in Prichard, Alabama. Ranked 3rd in Vigor High School’s graduating class of 421, Wilkerson has maintained a 3.81 point average throughout the last four years.

APRIL 30, 1981

Jill Jones, a third grader, won the bicycle for raising the most money in the field events to help the Mississippi Lung Association. The events were sponsored by the Neshoba Central and Philadelphia Elementary School and the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

Valerie Black came in second in a two mile run at Mississippi State University sponsored by Housing and Residence Life. More than 80 MSU students, male and female, competed in the event. Miss Black is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rod Black.  

MAY 8, 1991

Alcorn State University sophomore, Patsy Collier, won the 100 and 200 meter runs at a recent track and field meet on the campus of Arkansas Pine-Bluff at the UAPB/Sunbeam relays. Collier won the 100 in a time of 12:40 and the 200 in the time of 25:08. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Truman Collier of the Dixon Community and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.J. Collier of Philadelphia.

 MAY 2, 2001

Skyshell Brown entered the National Federation of Music Club Hymn Playing eventand earned a superior award. She is the daughter of Mrs. Betty Hudson and the granddaughter of Mrs. Skyshell Brown Carlene Hill. She is a member of the Philadelphia Music Club Juniors, a member of the Beta Club and attends Jerusalem Temple Church. She is in Mrs. Sanders Sixth grade room at Philadelphia Elementary School.

MAY 4, 2011 aGrenada High School All-Star senior softball player, Taylor Holland recently signed a letter of Intent to play at Delta State University next season. In 25 games last season, Holland hit .425 with extra base hits. She struck out only twice in 82 at bats. The people present for when she signed are; Rose Kallsak, Mike Montgomery, Bob Holland, Kim Holland, Leslie Lancaster, and Ashleigh Hicks.
