MARCH 21, 1941
The Bond School boys’ basketball team, first Neshoba County quintet ever to win its way to the state championship tournament, came out in third place in the play at Hattiesburg. The Bond five defeated Fulton in the consolation game.
MARCH 15, 1951
Jim Gardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Gardner, of Philadelphia, left for Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, where he will be in training for several weeks. Pvt. Gardner volunteered for the Air Force. He is a graduate of Philadelphia High School, class of ‘50 and has made his home in Philadelphia for a number of years.
James Ratcliff, student at Hinds Junior College, Raymond, was named on the honor roll for the fourth (six weeks) term, he maintained an A-B average for the time. James, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Ratcliff Sr., of Philadelphia, is a graduate of the local high school.
MARCH 16, 1961
Miss Dora Lee Livingston, 19 year old student at MSCW of Yazoo City, who succeeds Miss Bety Denton of Tupelo as Mississippi's official “Miss Hospitality”. Miss Livingston was chosen first alternate in a statewide “Miss Hospitality” contest sponsored by the Agricultural and Industrial Board at Biloxi.
MARCH 19, 1971
Alan W. Perry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion W. Perry of Philadelphia, is the winner of a scholarship medal given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts, it has been announced. The medal is given for the highest grades made by persons sitting for the uniform examination of candidates for the CPA certificate, the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants.
MARCH 12, 1981
Diane Backstrum of Neshoba Central High School has been selected by the Clarion-Ledger Jackson Daily News as one of the five best basketball players in the state. She was selected first team all-state. Diane has received offers from numerous colleges and universities in the state, and some out of state.
Three Philadelphia Firemen, have been awarded certificates designating them as emergency medical technicians after successfully completing a training course. The people present are; City Fire Commissioner Harold Richardson, firefighter, Hubert Yates, Volunteer Firefighter, George Yates, firefighter, Kenneth Coleman and Chief W. G. Brunson.

Lindsey Elizabeth Tillman was crowned Queen of Hearts in the three and four age division at Philadelphia High School. She is the three year old daughter of Jimmy and Renee Tillman of Philadelphia. Her grandparents are Jerry and Lynn Martin of Philadelphia and Bob and Helen Tillman of Union.

Bruce Tripplett, associate director of Veteran Affairs, presents a retirement plaque to Preston F. Isaac, for over 52 years of dedicated federal service columinting with over 10 years of police service in the Department of Veteran Affairs. Observing is Carjecter Johnson, Director VA Police Services.

The Neshoba Education Foundation recently presented a check to the superintendent of the city and county school districts to purchase data paper for use by the schools. The people present are; County School Superintendent, George Shaw, Neshoba Education Foundation President, Dr. Joe Jordan, City School Superintendent Dr. Joseph White, Lee J. McKinney, Lashon Horne, Eric Prince, Tommy Williams, Allen Hardy, and David Vowell.
Mary Margaret Bailey, daughter of Dee Dee and David Bailey, was named 2012 Distinguished Young Woman of Neshoba County and Scholastic winner. Courtney Partridge, daughter of Tawana Patridge and James, Partridge, first alternate; Kate Timmons, daughter of Vickey and David Timmns, second alternate.
