MARCH 7, 1941

The seniors of Arlington High School will present a three-act farce, “Hope, Faith, and Flarity”. Itaska Hodgins, Faye Coghlan, and Marsette Tally will play the leading roles of the ever hopeful Hope, faithful Faith, and the Irish Mick Flarity, respectively. They are supported by a well-balanced cast. 

Miss Elizabeth DeWeese, daughter of Mrs. Albert DeWeese of Philadelphia, was recently named to the Presidency of Kappa Delta, social sorority on the campus of Louisiana State University. Miss DeWeese, a junior in the college of arts and sciences, is a transfer to the University from Ward Belmont University from Ward Belmont College. She is a graduate of the local high school.   

MARCH 1, 1951

Members of the Neshoba County Military Man Power Committee were honored by Captain George W. Bennett, who presented them Certificates of Membership as an award for their splendid services during the past months. The award was made by Captain Bennett who was representing Lieutenant General John R. Hodge.

Mrs. R.W. Evans of Philadelphia, has received a letter from her son, Willie Ray Evans, PN3, who has been stationed in the Pacific Waters with the U.S. navy, telling of his recent honor bestowed on him by his Command Officer for his splendid services aboard the USS Norris. He has received a citation and recommended for the Commendation Ribbon, for meritorious service for the period of August 23, 1950 to February, 1950, while serving as personnel man on the USS Norris.

MARCH 2, 1961

The members of the Neshoba County Military Man Power Committee were honored by Captain George W. Bennett, who presented them Certificates of Membership as an award for their splendid services during the past months. The award was made by Captain Bennett who was representing Lieutenant General John R. Hodge. 

Miss Jessie May Stewart of Philadelphia has been initiated into Delta Sigma Chi, honorary business fraternity at the University of Mississippi, selection of membership in this fraternity is based on scholarship, leadership, character, and personality. Jessie May is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.C. Stewart is a senior in the school of Commerce and Business Administration at Ole Miss.  

MARCH 5, 1971

Stan Yates (21) of the Philadelphia Tornadoes fires a shot in semifinals against Corinth in the State Coliseum in the Boys AA Tournament. Corinth defeated the tornadoes 70-64, but lost in the finals to Gulfport, 70-45. 

FEBRUARY 26, 1981

Bryan Collins has been selected as a Spirit of America XI Honoree. He is the 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Collins of Vicksburg. He is also the grandson of Mrs. Sarah Richardson and the late Alfred Richardson of Philadelphia. He was selected all conference nose guard and most valuable defensive lineman of South Central A. Academy his sophomore year.  

MARCH 6, 1991

Sheila Luquire, a 19 year old Louisiana State University student, is the new Miss Philadelphia. Miss Luquire will represent Philadelphia in the Miss Mississippi pageant in Vicksburg. She is the daughter of Wayne and Judy Luquire of Meridian. Angie Hardin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hardin, was named first alternate.

 

FEBRUARY 28, 2001

Choctaw Central High School’s Chantay Frazier (20) battles for a rebound against Hazelhurst in the semifinal of MHSAA Girls 3A South State Tournament. CCHS lost to Hazelhurst, but beat Forest to earn third place and advance to the state tournament. Choctaw Central won its first-round game in the state tournament by a score of 84-50 over Independence.

MARCH 2, 2011

Neshoba Central students Rebekah Watson and Joseph Willis scored a perfect score on the state mandated Algebra I subject area test. Passing this test is a graduation requirement. Neshoba Central Algebra I teachers are Carla Vanderpoorten and Caleb Thompson.
