FEBRUARY 7, 1941

Frances Thomas, daughter of Chancery Clerk and Mrs. J.S. Thomas, is a full-fledged pillow now. She got her wings when she took final tests for a license following a Civil Aeronautics Authority training course at East Central Junior College where she is a freshman. Frances was the only girl in her class of ten.    

FEBRUARY 1, 1951

A group of Neshoba County students received degrees from Mississippi State college. The group was; Mrs. Alline Salter, now teaching in the Cleveland School, Kemper County, who graduated with honors. The others that received degrees were; Irvin D. Clark, School of Agriculture; Will Whatley Johnson, J. Mack Lofton, Billy D. Lee, Arlie D. Watkins, and John J. Carver.

The following students in the 9th and 10th grades of teh Bond Consolidated School have been named as winners of the Who’s Who contest: Most Intelligent Girl: Bobbie Fulton, Most Intelligent Boy: Harold Green, Most Talented Girl: Henritta Vandevender, Most Talent Boy: Hubert Wright, Friendliest Girl: Joyce Barrier, Friendliest Boy: Billy Joe Branning. 

FEBRUARY 2, 1961

Dr. L.O. Todd, President of East Central Junior College, Decatur, announces that C.A. Carter of the Bloomo Community in Neshoba County has become Business manager of East Central Junior College. Mr. Carter graduated from ECJC in 1953 after which he entered the army as a private and was discharged with the rank of first lieutenant. Mr. CArter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charley Cater of the Bloomo Community. 

FEBRUARY 4, 1971

Debra Sue Waddell, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard B. Waddell, attended the recent Alla Ball at the municipal auditorium in New Orleans. She was the guest of Nancy Lee and Cindy Badalamenti of New Orleans. Mrs. Waddell attended the Elenians Ball, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Badalamenti. While in New Orleans, they toured the city and went to the races. 

JANUARY 29, 1981

Seniors from Philadelphia, Newton, and Noxapater High School were on campus recently for a special Senior Day program. These schools were unable to attend during the regular Senior Day Week in November. Representing their class are; Belynda Peebles of Philadelphia, Greg Vance of Newton, and Deborah Phillips of Noxapater.  

FEBRUARY 6, 1991

At the recent awards banquet of the Mississippi Paint Horse Club, Julia Risher and Debutante Lady received year-end highpoint awards in Western Pleasure ages 13 and under and Western HOrsemanship ages 13 and under. Julia, is the daughter of Susan and Sidney Risher, and a seventh grader at Neshoba Central. Debutante Lady is trained by Jerry Barnett of Carthage. 

 

FEBRUARY 7, 2001

The ACHIEVE Mississippi Project of Alcorn State University, is proud to name Tantaneshia Houston as the recipient of the ACHIEVE Mississippi Scholarship. Houston is an elementary education major with a gpa of 3.37- 4.0 scale. She is the daughter of Harold and Diane Dennis and the granddaughter of Hubert and Margaret Houston. 

FEBRUARY 2, 2011

Dr. Dan Howard, pastor of First Baptist Church in Philadelphia, delivered an opening prayer to the Senate at the invitation of Senator Giles Ward, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant was also present. 

Trent Stribling, Philadelphia High School student, has been selected to play in the 2010/2011 MAC All-Star Soccer game to be held at Clinton High School. His accomplishments during high school include: First Team Soccer All District 07-08, 08-09, 09-10, and Offense MVP District for 09-10 year.
