Senior class at Bond High School has elected the following officers: President, Edna Blount; Vice-President, Frances Miller; Secretary-Treasurer, Jewel Price; Sponsor, Miss Jamie Alderman. Other members of the senior class are Ellie Rea Alford, Emma Pearl Burt, Bernice Copeland, Otho Robertson, Ernestine Stokes, and Jack Cumberland.
OCTOBER 13, 1950
William Allen Webb and Merrill Bindford Williams have been pledged to two fraternities at the University of Mississippi, where they are students. Webb to Pi Kappa Alpha and Williams to Kappa Alpha.
Pfc. James B. Barnes, who was recently promoted to his present ranking is now in Yokahoma, Japan. He has been in the service for some time, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Barnes of the Longino Community.

James David Hayes senior at Philadelphia High School has been named a semifinalist in the 1960-61 National Merit Scholarship competition. Young Hayes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.G. Mooney Jr. Semi finalists are among the 10,000 high scoring students on the national merit Scholarship Qualifying test, a test of educational development given in more than 15,000 high schools.
Willene L. Lester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Lewis, of Neshoba, is enrolled for the fall semester at Memphis State University. She is majoring in education. The University has been enabled to offer instruction to additional students this semester by the creation of 16 new teaching positions and the construction of a new classroom building, Jones Hall.

Mayor Allan King has proclaimed October 18-23 National Women’s Week in Philadelphia. The people present with the mayor as he signed were; Mrs. Lennie McArthur, president of the local Business and Professional Women’s Club, and Mrs. Alberta Fleming, chairman of National Business Women’s Week.

Heather Cumberland and her dog, buttons, participated in the pet show at First Methodist Church. Members of the five year old class brought their pets to kindergarten to have them judged by Dr. Glenn may. Each pet received a blue ribbon. Heather is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cumberland of Philadelphia.
Tammy Bates of Philadelphia was crowned the 1980 homecoming queen at Leake Academy during half time. Serving as flower girl was Ellen Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Allen of Carthage. Crownbearer was Marcus McPhail, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary McPhail of Madden. Miss Bates was crowned by student body president Richard Smith. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Bates of Philadelphia.

A Philadelphia High School Senior is among 1,500 semi-finalists in the 27th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Students. Anton Cole, son of Mrs. Donna Cole, will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 725 achievement scholarships to be awarded in 1991.

Adrienne Holmes and Jennifer Walker enjoy the spotlight Friday night during homecoming at Neshoba Central High School. Adrienne is the daughter of Bernice and Phillip Holmes. Jennifer’s parents are Nancy Walker and Barry Walker.
Philadelphia Security Insurance was awarded the Beautification award by the Town and Country Garden Club. Clarice Smith, presented the award to Virgina Bates, Sandi Lewis, Allen Hardy, and George Burnett, and Kay KIlpatrick.

Pvt. Scott O. Beckham recently graduated basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and is currently in Aberdeen proving ground in maryland completing his AIT training. He is the son of Craig and Amy Morriss and grandson of the late Donnia Morris, and Jerry and Linda Beckham, all of Philadelphia.
