SEPTEMBER 6, 1940

Robert Paul Howle of Neshoba County is one of the first of his class to receive a pilot’s license under the Civil Aeronautics Authority aviation course which has been in session at Mississippi Southern College.

SEPTEMBER 8, 1950

Bill Richardson of this city has been named assistant Freshman Coach at Ole Miss. Mr. Richardson a graduate of the University was one of the institution’s most outstanding athletes during his college days, playing tackle on the varsity team. Attending Philadelphia High School, he was a member of the State Championship Team in 1928. Mr. Richardson is the son of the late Judge and Mrs. Earl S. Richardson and is a member of two of Mississippi’s most prominent families.

SEPTEMBER 8, 1960

Miss jan Shephard, newly elected president, of the Lydian Tepos Music Club, a high school club sponsored by the Lydian Music Club. Other officers are; Gwen Putnam, vice president, Carole Salter, secretary, and Glenda Nicholson, treasurer. Counselors and Mrs. W.O. Nicholson Jr., and Mrs. Hal Russell.

SEPTEMBER 10, 1970

Ronnie Burrage displays the trophy and ribbon awarded hi at the state 4-H Club horse how held in Jackson at the coliseum. Burrage placed first in the barrel racing event and sixth in pole bending.

SEPTEMBER 11, 1980

Anne-Marie Madison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Madison, was named “Best Four Year Old” at the recent Cinderella State Pageant held on the Gulf Coast. Anne-Marie received a plague. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Madison of Philadelphia, and the Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barnes of Dekalb and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Rush of Philadelphia.

SEPTEMBER 12, 1990

A Neshoba Central High School student is among 15,000 semifinalists announced in the 1991 National Merit Scholarship Program. Christa Sherman was selected along with the academically talented high school seniors representing about half of 1 percent of each state’s graduating class. She is the daughter of Gary and Charlotte Agent.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2000

Amanda Roman was the second place point earner in the accelerated reader program at Neshoba Central Elementary School for the 1999-2000 school year. Presenting Amanda with a certificate for a t-shirt from a local business is Mrs. Beth Jackson, elementary principal.

SEPTEMBER 8, 2010

Pvt. Scott Beckham recently graduated from basic training at Fort Knox, KY. and is currently at Aberdeen proving ground in Maryland completing his AIT training. He is the son of Craig and Amy Morris. He is also the grandson of the late Donnia Morris and Jerry and Linda Beckham.
