AUGUST 30, 1940
To W.J. Jackson goes the honor of producing Neshoba county’s first bale of cotton for 1940. The bale weighed 480 pounds. The cotton was of the D&Pl variety, Mr. Jackson has about 26 acres of cotton this year.
SEPTEMBER 1, 1950
Philadelphia’s own Eagles brought back this handsome trophy held by “Doc” Savell, by winning first place in the Pearl Valley Baseball League, coming out victorious over eight other teams. The only team in the League to play all 28 games as scheduled. The eagles set their own pace and hope to be able to keep to their good record next year.
SEPTEMBER 1, 1960
Sue Allday, 12, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin R. Allday, of Union, was one of the 15 exhibitors in the girls’ 4-H division of the Neshoba County Fair this month, and won five blue, three red and one white ribbons.
Richard Tucker, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Tucker of Philadelphia a junior at Mississippi College in Clinton will serve on the staff of the Dean of Men for the 1960-61 session. He served on the staff as dormitory counselor for the summer session and will be a counselor in the freshman dormitory this fall.
SEPTEMBER 3, 1970
Willie J. (Tenny) Coats has been named assistant football coach of the East Central Junior College Warriors. Coasts comes to East Central from Lumberton High School, Lumberton, Mississippi. where he has served as a football coach for four years.
SEPTEMBER 4, 1980
Marine Sgt. William M. Kilpatrick II, son of Billy and Nona Kilpatrick of Philadelphia, was warded the Good Conduct Medal. The Good Conduct Medal signifies faithful and obedient service during a three year period. To earn it, enlisted marines must achieve and maintain an unblemished conduct record for the entire period.
SEPTEMBER 5, 1990
Joe Rush Jr. captured the Philadelphia Country Club’s golf championship over the Labor Day Weekend. Playing in only his third club championship, Rush, 20, was down three strokes after Sunday’s first round action. In the final round of the tournament, Rush birdied the 15th hole.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2000
Julia Elise Campassi of Long Beach attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Houston, Texas. Having demonstrated academic achievement and an interest in a career related to science and health. Campassi joined more than 390 outstanding high school juniors and seniors from across the United States at the conference. She is a senior at Long Beach High school. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Campassi.
The Woodmen of the World recently donated 24 chairs to the Neshoba County Nursing Home. The people present are; Melanie Vowell, Sherrell Breazeale, Edna Ryals, resident’s council president, and Willis White.

Quarterback, Bailey Cook, of the Philadelphia Rookie League carries the ball during a Saturday game against Kemper County. Philadelphia Rookies won the game 32-0 on the Kemper field. There are three age levels in the league with the youngest being the Rookies followed by the Midgets and Pee-Wees.
