JULY 21, 1940

John Murphy, sold his auto supply store in Oxford to J.W. Downs of Philadelphia, according t the Oxford Eagle. Mr. Downs, who has had much experience in that line f business, also owns a Western Auto Association Store in the Neshoba County Capital. He and Mrs. Downs and their two sons have moved to Oxford.

JULY 21, 1950

Mr. and Mrs. Will Luke of Longino have recently received word from their son, Wilie E. Luke of 31st Infantry, Seventh Division that he sailed on July 12th for a destination near Japan but of course did not say where.

JULY 21, 1960

Joseph Eubanks, and James Mike Cook, both of Philadelphia, are members of the Neshoba County 4-H boys safety team which presented the state winning demonstration in this division of contests during the division of contests during the state 4-H club Congress at Mississippi State University recently.

Miss Glenda Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Moore of Coldwater. Glenda placed third in the State Dairy Demonstration contest a Mississippi State University. The title of Glenda’s Demonstration was Showing Dairy Animals.

 JULY 23, 1970

Two auto mechanic students, received trophies for participating in the annual statewide Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest held in Jackson. Gary Spears and Glenn Cook were the attendees.

JULY 24, 1980

The Neshoba Central High School cheerleaders were selected to compete against more than 600 other top squads from around the nation in competition. The squad took top honors in the United States Cheerleader Association camp at East Central Junior College to earn the spot in the national competition. Neshobas 10 girl team was awarded many blue ribbons at the USCA camp in Decatur. USCA is the worlds largest cheerleader association.

JULY 18, 1990

Natasha Willis, was crowned the new Choctaw Indian Princess. Mary Ferguson was first runner up and Miss Congeniality. Miss Stacie Jimmie was the second runner up.

The Nanih Way yearbook staff at Philadelphia High School received the PICA Award from Jostens Printing and Publishing. The people that received it are, Laura McGilbra and Stacy Madison.

JULY 19, 2000

Mike Plum and Kate Hartley took home top honors in Saturdays Heart Of Dixie Triathlon. Plumb is a six time winner while Hartleys win came in just her second triathlon. 

At 79 years old Jimmy Moore finished the Heart O’Dixie Triathlon in just four hours and three minutes. He was the oldest competitor in the triathlon.

Former Neshoba Central standout Donnie Tabb is officially a professional baseball player. He was selected in the 43rd round of the Major League Baseball Draft. He was the 1,292nd pick overall. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. He mainly played centerfield and was a very versatile player.
