MAY 17, 1940
Twenty-one young men from Louisiana and Mississippi have been enlisted in the United States Navy at the Navy Recruiting Station, 319 Custom House Building, New Orleans, Louisiana. Eighteen as apprentice seamen and three as mess attendants. This leaves vacancies in the May Navy enlistment quotas for this district for only twenty-two apprentice seamen and one mess attendant.

W.E. Collins of Philadelphia, displays his prize 26-ounce Blue Bream caught in the old Winstead pond, about 75 yards from where Congressman Arthur Winstead grew up. Twelve-and-one-half inches in width, the fish was caught on a No. 6 hook with a roach as bait.

Mrs. N.S. (Agnes) Hutchinson was honored recently by having bestowed upon her the title of "Woman of the Year" by the members of the Philadelphia Business and Professional Woman's Club. Mrs. Hutchinson for the past six years has been member of the Philadelphia B&PW Club, during which time she had served as Second Vice President and President.

Richard H. Molpus of Philadelphia, president and owner of Molpus Lumber Co. and Molpus Hardwood Co., has been named Mississippi's Small Businessman of the Year. The presentation of a certification of recognition was made by Secretary of State Heber Ladner for Governor John Bell Williams on behalf of the Small Business Administration.

Kevin Morgan and Tammy Tolbert were selected Mr. and Mrs. Philadelphia High School in elections earlier this year. Tammy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy G. Tolbert, and Kevin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duaine Morgan.

Kristi Patrick will be featured on Good Morning America. She is a freshman who attends ECCC. She will be featured in the show greeting. The segment was filmed at WTOK to be aired on Good Morning America. She is the daughter of Ann and Jeff Sanders.

Kyle Robinson was recently elected as the Mississippi State reporter at the Mississippi Junior Beta Convention in Biloxi. Kyle is an eighth grader at Philadelphia Junior High. He is the son of Keith and Jayne Robinson.

Matthew Snow has been named “Outstanding Career-Technical Student†for the 2009-2010 school year. Snow is a senior at Neshoba Central High School and has been a student in the Building Trades Program at the Career Tech for two years.
