APRIL 12, 1940

Elizabeth Cole tied with fifth place for fifth place in poultry judging at the Southeast Mississippi Livestock Show. The rating entitles her to enter the state contest in Jackson at the State Fair. Other members of the County's 4-H poultry judging team were Christine Cole and Mary D. Tingle.

APRIL 14, 1950

George Parker killed a twenty pound gobbler Monday, as turkey season opened. Mr. Parker killed the bird in Kemper county and had gone turkey hunting for the second time in his life. The gobbler had a ten inch beard according to Mr. Parker.



APRIL 14, 1960

Glenn Cannon was voted most outstanding player in the recent Biloxi Pee Wee basketball tournament. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cannon. Glenn is 13 years old. He scored 39 points in four games. He led all scores in the event, received a trophy as most valuable player, and was voted to the tourney All-Star team.

APRIL 16, 1970

The major Fredrick E. Sullens Chapter of the Quill and Scroll presents senior Ricky Gamblin as the fourth member of the Murrah's 1969-70 Hall of Fame. He is the sn of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gamblin of Jackson. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Barnes and Jeff Gamblin and the late Mrs. Gamblin, all of Philadelphia.

Evelyn Marie Proctor of Philadelphia has been initiated into Phi Tau Chi, national religion fraternity at Mississippi State College for Women. Miss Proctor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ray Proctor Sr., of Philadelphia, is a junior business education major at MSCW.

APRIL 17, 1980

Allen Payne has been accepted to Harvard University in the graduate school of design. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Payne. He is the 1973 graduate of Philadelphia High School. He was the valedictorian. He also is the 1973 recipient of the Neshoba County Fair Outstanding Youth Award.

APRIL 18, 1990

The Mississippi Economic Council has announced that Doug Alan Lundy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lundy, has been selected the STAR Student at Neshoba Central High School. Designated as STAR Teacher is Mrs. Julia Cole. STAR students are based on academic excellence. American College Test scores and scholastic averages are considered in designation of the school's STAR student.

Roy Graham recently won first place in the 50 meter dash and second place in the softball throw during the Special Olympics. Roy is the son of Edna Graham and Ray Thomas Graham of Philadelphia.



APRIL 12, 2000

Rozane Richardson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Richardson, is crowned Neshoba County's Miss Hospitality Saturday. Olivia Irons, Mississippi's Miss Hospitality was also present. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Irons of Philadelphia. Miss Richardson, a junior elementary education major at Mississippi State University, will compete for the state title in July.

Jenny Bowles, of the Neshoba Central Future Farmers of America chapter recently attended the 66th Annual State convention held in Hinds community college held in Raymond. She won fourth place in the extemporaneous public speaking contest. Her advisor is Rusty Suttle.

APRIL 14, 2010

Bob Henson, President of the Neshoba County Forestry Association, presented James Paul Mason with the "Tree Farmer of the Year" award at the Neshoba County Forestry Association annual meeting on Tuesday.
