FEBRUARY 23, 1940

The Philadelphia Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday night, reelected S.A. Brasfield as superintendent of the city schools for a term of three years, J.L. posey, secretary of the board, said Wednesday. Mr. Brasfield is now serving his first year as superintendent here.

H.C. Creekmore of Philadelphia has been named a member of the Complaints and Appeals and Committee of the Mississippi Masonic Grand Lodge by Dr. George W. Davidson new grand master. The Masonic Grand Lodge convened in Vicksburg last week. Circuit Judge Percy M. Lee, presiding over court here, was named one of four Custodians of Work.



FEBRUARY 24, 1950

Charley McClain, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack McClain is serving as a Page in the House of Representatives in the Mississippi Legislature. He is thirteen years old and a member of the 8th grade and the local school.



FEBRUARY 25, 1960

W.G. Edwards, zone manager for Investor Diversified Services Inc., has received national recognition for record sales during November 1959, Joseph M. Fitzsimmons, President, announced. Mr. Edwards scored among the top 50 salesmen in the Southern region.

James E. Henry, Hq. & Hq. Co. 1st. Med. Tk Bn, 198th Armor Mississippi Army National Guard, Philadelphia, departed his home station 26, in January for Field Artillery Radar Maintenance Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. The course is of a 7 months duration and is designed to further the individual's knowledge of military techniques under the modern concept of training.


FEBRUARY 26, 1970

A member of the Philadelphia High School Band was named to the 1970 Lions All-State Band. Two members won honorable mention. He is Stan Yates, who plays trumpet. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Yates. Winning honorable mention were Susie Hand, flute, and Denny Cole, trumpet.




FEBRUARY 28, 1980

The Mississippi Economic Council has announced that Phil Green, a senior at Leake Academy of Madden, has been selected as the school's STAR student. Phill has lettered three years in football and track and has also participated in academic Betterment Competition three years in history, biology, and bookkeeping.



FEBRUARY 28, 1990

Amanda Moore placed first in the 8-9 year old Showmanship Division at the Junior Dairy Round-Up Show. She is showing her Jersey Cow named Beasha Ep Lucy. Amanda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Moore. She is a member of the Kountry Kids 4-H Club.



FEBRUARY 23, 2000

Casey Jane Cherry won the Queen of Hearts for her age division. She also won most photogenic. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benny Cherry. Casey is the granddaughter of Jane Breland and the late Pete Breland and Mr. and Mrs. Grover Cherry.



FEBRUARY 24, 2010

High School students gathered at the Cole House to attend the first meeting of the Neshoba County Teen Age Republicans. The group discussed Republican values and how they could help with electing Republican candidates. The students that attended this were; Dustin Floyd, Joshua Gaines, Hannah Jones, and Kaitlin Burk.
