State Senator Earl Richardson of Philadelphia has been named of a joint Legislative committee which will study advisability of constructing a state office building, suggested by Governor Paul R. Johnson as a means of saving $50,000 in rents annually.
Miss Marion Lowry, who has been assistant home management supervisor in the FSA office here, has been transferred to Hattiesburg as home management supervisor for Forest County. Miss Jimmie Holmes of Hattiesburg succeeds Miss Lowry.

Superintendent of Education Lamar Whinery presents A.J. Kilpatrick the Championship trophy of the Choctaw Conference immediately after the Philadelphia boys team defeated Crystal Springs in the local gym Tuesday evening.
Harold W. Ellinburg, 20 years old, grandson of Mr. J. Fredrick, of Philadelphia, has re-enlisted in the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry which is now stationed in Japan. Harold was accepted by Corporal O.J. Smith and received his final examination at the Jackson recruiting station before departing to Fort Knox, Kentucky. He attended school in Philadelphia and was a member of the 4-H Club. A total of two years service, Harold served 20 months of this time in Alaska with the 813th Engineers.

Boy Scout advancement merit badges were recently awarded to Joe Don Yates, on firemanship, and Jerry Blount in athletics, bird study, firemanship, public health, signaling, woodcarving, basketry, citizenship in the home, pioneering, safety, and surveying. Charles Lee attained second rank. First class rank was bestowed on Joe Don Yates and Ronnie Blount. Jerry Blount was presented Life Scout Rank.

Mark flake won the honor of being the highest scoring individual in dairy judging at the Southwest District Contest. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Flake. Jeff Hedgworth is another 4-H member from Neshoba County in the dairy judging contest.
FEBRUARY 14, 1990
Heather Wood, a Philadelphia High School junior, will run for vice president of the Mississippi Beta Clubs. The state elections will take place during the 1990 state convention in Biloxi. Heather is the daughter of Joe and Renee Wood. The PHS Beta Club has raised campaign funds to sponsor Heather as vice president. The campaign manager is Laura McGilbra and the Beta Club Sponsors are Jo Ann Rouse and Wanda Waddell.

Neshoba Central Middle School announced Robert Mikell as 2000 Teacher of the Year. He earned a bachelor of science degree in geology. Mikell teaches seventh grade language arts and coaches basketball and football.

Two Philadelphia High School football standouts signed with East Central Community College last week. The boys that are signing are, Brandon Willis, son of Dianne Moore and Brad Crockett, and Julian Riddle, son of Lesa Eiland and Julius Riddle, and present with them signing is Coach Teddy Dyess.
