It was announced here this week by the Neshoba County Price and Rationing Board that the May quota of passenger car tires for Neshoba County is 87 tires. This figure compares with 77 tires for the month of April.

Chaplain Tildon S. McGee, who has been a prisoner of the Germans since Sept. 26, has been liberated by his Allies.

May 5, 1955

Mayor Norman Johnson Jr., states that the new city water line to the Booker T. Washington school is now under construction. When completed it will be about 1500 feet long.

There's a new business on the square; Blakney's Department Store, 201 Beacon Street, now located in the building formerly occupied by the Mecca Cafe.

May 6, 1965

An ordinance granting the right, authority and privilege to establish and operate a community antenna system in Philadelphia was passed at the last meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Dr. Douglas Montgomery, president of East Central Junior College, is announcing the appointment of Albert Elliott to the Board of Trustees of the college.

May 8, 1975

The employment figure for March in Neshoba County rose for the second month in a row. The 8,540 persons estimated to be employed in March was 10 above the February figure, and 20 below the number reported working in March one year ago.

Philadelphia Mayor Charles McClain signed a proclamation this week designating May 12 through May 18 as Nurse Appreciation Week.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver will join families at the Choctaw Indian Reservation Thursday to pay tribute to the supporters and families participating in Let's Play to Grow.

May 3, 1995 

Thirty-five law enforcement officers including one from Philadelphia were inducted into the 100/200/300 Club for combating Mississippi's most serious highway safety problem, driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs.

Dave Carter, Weyerhaeuser Plywood Plant supervisor, presented a check to Boy Scouts of America, Choctaw Area Council President Kenneth Breland on behalf of the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation.

Speaking in general terms and giving no dollar figures, USDA Rural Development Director Nick Walters told county officials Monday that several avenues were available to help fund the renovation and expansion of Neshoba County General Hospital, including selling the facility.

County road employees say a request for a salary increase and a meeting with the Board of Supervisors to discuss the raise have been denied.

The director of Parks and Recreation asked supervisors on Monday to consider paving about 350 yards of roadway leading to the soccer complex in Northside Park along with two parking lots.
