Since the beginning of the brake-check program on April 15, which has the cooperation of law enforcement officers in Neshoba county, a number of cars have been checked and the number failing to pass the safety test emphasizes the need for such a campaign, according to Sheriff L. M. Chaney.

Members of the eighth grade class of Deemer School and their chaperons, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Agent have returned from a very interesting and educational trip to New Orleans.
Housewives were given a timely reminder today by Manager of the Meridian district office, Social Security Administration. A housewife is required to make a Social Security report during the month of April on every household worker to whom the housewife paid as much as $50 in cash wages during the first three months of this year.

Philadelphia High School and the Philadelphia Elementary School have both received a double-A academic rating from the Mississippi Accrediting Commission, it was announced this week by Supt. J.E. Hurdle.
Construction is under way at the A. DeWeese Lumber Company in Philadelphia on the first southern pine plywood plant to be built in Mississippi.

Chancery Judge J.W. Walker of Mendenhall ruled Friday that the Neshoba County Nursing Home had the right to seek recovery of funds it charged that former administrator Lamar G. Salter illegally received and paid himself.
Homer Lofton (Hoop) Hooper Jr. has been a horse fancier most of his life and with his love for the animals and natural ability to handle them, he has developed into one of this part of the South's most promising trainers.

Two Philadelphia industries were among 109 from Mississippi nominated for the 1984 Governor's Bronze Glove Award. The Philadelphia industries nominated were Hardy Manufacturing Co. and Weyerhaeuser Company's Philadelphia District.
The Neshoba Central High School band attended the state band concert at Hinds Junior College Thursday and received superior ratings in concert marching, inspection and drum major.

The Neshoba Central FFA Club presented the program Monday at the Philadelphia Rotary Club. The students explained how the club worked in what Rotarians said was an impressive display of discipline and knowledge.

For the fourth consecutive year, Neshoba County General Hospital and Nursing Home saw its revenues exceed expenses, its chief executive officer and administrator told the Board of Supervisors on Monday, noting a $1.7 million profit during fiscal year 2014.
