Neshoba County lost one of its best known and respected citizens Monday afternoon when Joshua Henry Beall died at his home here at the age of 63 years.

Ten counties in Mississippi with the best E bond-buying records will receive coveted E-Bond Pennant awards at the end of the Fourth War Loan drive, A. D. Doggett, War Loan drive Chairman for Neshoba County, has been notified.

              

January 13, 1955

The extensive additions to the Neshoba County courthouse and the building of a new jail is expected to be completed sometime in April, it was stated this week by Roy Howell of the contracting firm of Howell and Sons, which is doing the job.

Representatives of the Interior department were in the city last week to make a survey of private and county-owned hospital facilities looking toward closing of the Indian Hospital here.

David Dunigan of Philadelphia, a 6'2" and 170 pound defensive back and tight end, has signed a football scholarship to attend Delta State University.

Philadelphia property owners will get a break in fire insurance rates thanks to a change in the city's protection classification by the Mississippi State Rating Bureau.

Rep. Mike Eakes predicted Tuesday that the legislature will raise teacher salaries, but the amount of the increase is uncertain.

Illinois Central Gulf Railroad has announced to sell more than 700 miles of its tracks in east Mississippi, including those running through Philadelphia to a Pittsburgh, PA company.

County officials unveiled the new $1.75 million Neshoba County Law Enforcement Center to over 500 visitors Sunday afternoon.

James H. Vance of the Neshoba Community has been named Neshoba County Tree Farmer of the Year.

An abandoned sewage lagoon situated near Northside Park could indefinitely stall or alter a proposed $7 million parks expansion project, it has been learned.

Citizens were being urged to watch for the return of a second National Guard unit from Iraq late this week and to line the streets for a homecoming celebration.

Rep. Jerry Turner, R-Baldwyn, says he'll file a bill that would take casino winnings from any parent who has overdue child support payments, directing that money to the child or children.
