Miss Mary Stella McInnis has been employed as Assistant Home Demonstration Agent for Neshoba County. She will have her offices in the Home Agent's office and will assist Miss Winnie Ray in all her work.

Tax collections for 1944 in Mississippi totalled nearly $4,000,000 more than in 1943, the previous high year, figures released the first of the week by the state tax commission showed.

              

January 6, 1955

W.D. Myers of Philadelphia has been named a member of the Mississippi Forestry Commission by Gov. Hugh White, it was announced this week.

The March of Dimes campaign in Neshoba County will officially get underway Friday at 7:15 when a group of business men will assemble at the Benwalt Hotel to canvas Philadelphia for funds, it was announced this week by R.G. Stribling, county chairman. 

   

January 7, 1965

James Ray Sistrunk is the first baby born at Neshoba County General Hospital in 1965. The baby was born on the morning of January 2 at 9:13 a.m. 

 

January 2, 1975

Two former POWs attending the University of Mississippi have received awards covering their time of imprisonment in North Vietnam.

Chancery Judge Robert Prisock was honored Tuesday at a reception by courthouse employees in the chancery clerk's office. This was Judge Prisock's last day in office before retiring from the bench.

January 2, 1985

The Central Water Association has awarded a contract to construct additional water supply lines in all six of its divisions.

Under a proposal by a special committee of the Mississippi House of Representatives, Neshoba County would remain in the same circuit and chancery court districts.

  

January 4, 1995  

The lovely decorated home of Mrs. Jean Griffin was the setting for the Philadelphia Woman's Club Christmas luncheon, with Mrs. Randolph Ellingburg and Mrs. Sara Trapp serving as co-hostesses.

The Philadelphia Business and Professional Woman's Club held its annual Christmas Party on Dec. 6 with Barbara Ellingburg, Jean Griffis, and Charlotte Nicholson serving as hostesses. 

January 5, 2005

Volunteers from the Philadelphia Public School District are lacing up their sneakers and preparing for the final leg of a statewide petition drive to pressure state legislators to make fully funding education a top priority.

C.R. "Charlie" Sartin was named an honorary member of the Philadelphia Rotary Club Monday in recognition of his meritorious service since joining the organization in June 1956. 

             

January 7, 2015

With the state Legislature convening its 2015 session on Tuesday, state Rep. Scott Bounds, R-Philadelphia, is hopeful and confident that more funding will be allocated toward right-of-way acquisition for the Williamsville connector during this term.

Dr. Kerry Whitehead began working at Neshoba County General Hospital's new Sleep Center about seven months ago. Whitehead comes to the county two or three times each month testing patients for numerous problems ranging from difficulty sleeping to snoring issues.
