November 17, 1944

The Farm Security Administration of neshoba County enjoyed a picnic Saturday (Armistice Day) planned and called by their leader Mrs. Olga Hughes for a thanksgiving celebration.

 The picnic was held on the beautiful picnic grounds of Choctaw Gardens with a large crowd from all parts of the country attending.

Capt. William J. Beall, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Beall of this city, is with the 9th Air Force in France, as postal officer. 

Capt. Beall was recently promoted to his present rank from 1st Lieut. Before entering the service he was an employee of the post office here in Philadelphia.

              

November 18, 1954

Three candidates will be initiated into the local Woodmen of the World Camp No. 330 tonight at ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. They are J. P. Collins, C. L. Bethany and Clyde E. Beckham, all of Philadelphia.

Commercial vehicles and vehicles used for business purposes will be allowed to park at no extra charge in meter spaces anywhere in the city provided they bear a permit in the form of a sticker issued by the Chief of Police of Philadelphia. 

   

November 19, 1964

A report at the meeting of the band parents of Philadelphia High School Monday showed that various projects already undertaken for the new school year has added $588.89 to the treasury. The report was made by treasurer Bill Fulton. 

  

November 21, 1974

At the 1974 4-H awards banquet, 96 leaders, 4-H'ers and guests attended this recognition of outstanding 4-H'ers. Each 4-H'er that attended received a medal or certificate for work done in their project area.

Mississippi Gov. William Waller was the speaker at the annual meeting of the Neshoba County Sportsmen's Club. Waller directed his talk toward conversation of game and fish, along with other natural resources.

November 21, 1984

Sheila Myers, a member of the Distributive Education Clubs of America at Philadelphia High School, has submitted a slogan and created a poster design for a national outdoor advertising display contest inaugurated at the beginning of the 1984-85 school year as a means of highlighting DECA's ongoing Drunk Driving Awareness Campaign.

Former Neshoba Central linebacker Brad Moody will represent East Central Community College in the 21st MS Community/Junior College All-Star Classic on Dec. 3 at Keenum Stadium in Booneville. 

      November 24, 2004

New fitness equipment and A transit service connecting the downtown area to the Pearl River Resort could be in operation as early as February under a partnership between the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Choctaw Transit and Philadelphia Main Street.

Beth Yarborough is just one of many artists who is gearing up for this weekend's Neshoba Artists’ Guild at the Depot. All made from fused glass, Yarborough will have colorful plates, Christmas ornaments, wind chimes and jewelry for sale.
