The Philadelphia Lions Club made extensive plans for Ladies' Night, which is to be held Tuesday, Oct. 31, and is expected to draw the entire membership, accompanied by the fair Lionesses, and a number of guests. The main speaker of the evening will be Mr. Jimmy Arrington of Collins.

A new organization of Methodist Men in Southside Methodist church, Philadelphia has been chartered by Methodism's General Board of Lay Activities in Chicago. Officers of the new group include: A.R. Hickman, president; G.W. Jones, secretary.

Guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Philadelphia Rotary Club on Monday of this week was J.R. Sylvia, of Clarke College, a student in the speech department. Accompanying Mr. Sylvia was W.B. Evans, teacher of speech at the college.

Former Governor Ross R. Barnett will be the principal speaker at the Veterans Day program to be held here Wednesday, Nov. 11, it was announced this week by Chairman Hugh Wolverton.

The Philadelphia High School Tornadoes were shocked by the Eupora Eagles as the two teams fought to a 12-12 deadlock in Eupora last Friday night. The Tornadoes held on to fourth place in the Choctaw Conference behind Kosciusko, Ackerman and Noxubee County.

The Neshoba County Fire Department, Inc. has been organized and funded and will begin operating within a few weeks.
October 24, 1984
Maurice Crenshaw, county fund director for the Neshoba County United Way, said this week that the drive for 1985 is at the half way point. Forty-six percent of the goal has been reached with industry, commercial and hospital-nursing homes divisions exceeding the other divisions in total contributions.

The Philadelphia-Neshoba County Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Philadelphia Sertoma Club will sponsor a holiday parade on Nov. 21.

Neshoba County will help host the 14th annual State Games of Mississippi next year due to the event's growth exceeding the capacity of facilities in Meridian and Lauderdale County.

Because of waivers, the Philadelphia Public Schools will remain a "C" district and Neshoba County Schools a "B" district based on Mississippi's new accountability system, which evaluates how schools and districts performed after implementing the stat's more rigorous standards.
