Fielder scores 64 points in 3 Rocket victories
The Neshoba Central Lady Rockets avenged their only Region 3-5A loss and went 3-0 last week in prep basketball action.
The Lady Rockets opened the week with a 78-36 win over Canton High School. They then defeated Cleveland Central 45-42, evening the score after a recent 54-51 double overtime loss. In a non-region game, the Lady Rockets stopped Northeast Lauderdale 71-59.
Leading the way for Neshoba Central was Hama'ya Fielder who scored a total of 64 points over the three games.
The Lady Rockets entered the week with a 16-3 overall record. They are 4-1 in the region standings and were to host Holmes Central in the final region game Tuesday. Neshoba Central was ranked third in a state poll of Class 5A teams,
Fielder scored 27 points as the Lady Rickets rolled over Canton High School.
Leading 18-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Rockets outscored Canton 20-12 in the second quarter and led 38-24 at the half. Neshoba Central outscored Canton 40-14 in the second half. Rodezah Smith added nine points.
Against Cleveland, the Lady Rockets led 10-7 after the first quarter. Cleveland came back to outpoint Neshoba 15-7 in the second quarter and took a 22-17 lead at the half. Neshoba outpointed Cleveland 12-9 in the third quarter and trailed 31-29 heading into the final stanza, The Lady Rockets would outscore Cleveland 16-12 in the final eight minutes to take the victory. Fielder had 15 points while Jeleisya Jim scored eight.
Neshoba Central closed out the week with a win over Northeast Lauderdale. The Lady Trojans led 21-20 at the end of the first quarter. But the Lady Rockets put 20 and 28 points in the basket in the second and third quarters to take control of the game. Fielder finished with 20 while Shanta’ Beaulieu added 10 points.
Neshoba Central boys
The Neshoba Central boys went 1-2 last week. They dropped a 75-61 decision to Canton High School and a 57-41 loss to Cleveland Central. They came back to defeat Northeast Lauderdale 73-66.
Neshoba Central trailed Canton 38-34 at the half. The Rockets stayed close but couldn’t pull ahead. Bryceton Spencer led with 25 points.
Cleveland went up 27-14 at the half and held on for the win. David Nash led with 10 points.
Trailing 41-32 at the half, the Rockets outscored the Trojans 41-20 in the second half to take the victory. Zae Goodin hit on six three-point shots to lead the Rockets with 20 points.
