A Neshoba County woman has been arrested and charged in relation to an attempted jail break last week after she was picked up on a drug indictment earlier in the week.

Candace Lynn Barton, 32, 10481 Road 244, was arrested on an indictment for possession of meth on Feb. 1. Barton was also charged at the time of her arrest with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. She is also charged with felony escape for an attempted jailbreak on Feb 4.

Sheriff Eric Clark said that Barton was arrested on Feb. 1 in the evening at her residents in the Linwood community. Clark said that Barton had a felony amount of methamphetamine on her at the time of the arrest. He said they found her hiding in a closet after her boyfriends let them search the premises when deputies arrived to bring Barton in on a recent indictment.

Barton was indicted for felony possession of meth. Clark said she was arrested on that charge in June of last year in the McDonald Community.

Clark said that on Feb. 4, Barton attempted to escape from the Neshoba County Detention Center.

“Some jail staff had to pull her out of the concertina wire on the fence,” Clark said. “She wound up with extensive damage to both hands and had to be stitched up.”

Clark said that Barton remains in custody on an $85,600 bond. Clark said her next court appearance should be on Feb. 28.

Another individual, Jonathan Bobbie Crocker, 42, of 10860 Road 541 indicted for possession of meth. He was arrested on Feb. 2 and according to jail records remains in custody on a $10,000 bond.
