The historic Ellis Theatre is ending its inaugural season being refurbished with a bang this weekend as they host Trey McLaughlin and then The Sounds of Zamar on May 6.

Buck Alman, general manager of the Ellis, said it has been an extremely exciting and electrifying first season, and the Congress of Country Music is looking forward to closing out their first season with McLaughlin’s performance.

“The level and quality of talent that we have been able to offer here at the Ellis Theatre has been incredible and Trey McLaughlin is no exception,” Alman said. “This will be a high energy show with incredible vocal harmonies that you won’t want to miss out on. I encourage anyone who wants to have a unique and meaningful concert experience to attend this show. It will be an evening you won’t soon forget.”

Trey M. McLaughlin is a passionate vocalist, educator, composer, arranger, and clinician. He is known for fusing together an eclectic mix of musical genres, and arranges and performs original works with his own touring and recording ensemble, “The Sounds of Zamar,” who concluded their first national tour in the 2018-2019 season.

McLaughlin currently serves as the Director of Worship and Arts at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, and is the Artistic Director of the non-profit performing arts youth group, Creative Impressions (a group he was once a member of and Student Director).

In his 2018-2019 tour, McLaughlin and The Sounds of Zamar performed at Mississippi State University as part of the Lyceum Series, the Bayou Theater in Houston, TX., The Perot Theatre in Texarkana, TX., and the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre at Augusta University in Georgia.

Trey McLaughlin and The Sounds of Zamar’s concert begins at 8 p.m. on May 6 at the Ellis Theatre. Tickets for the show are on sale now at www.congressofcountrymusic.org, and can also be purchased by calling the box office at (601) 653-5358.
