Consolidating voting precincts was brought before the Board of Supervisors last week.

Election Commissioner Charlene Kirksey and Circuit Clerk Patty Duncan came before the board to say the county’s 27 precincts could be reduced. 

With redistricting coming up next year, they asked for supervisors to consider consolidation of some of the voting precinct locations, moving them to a central location.

Neshoba County has 27 voting precincts. Some are co-located. 

No action was taken.

In other actions, supervisors:

• Approved the budget of Neshoba General hospital. Administrator Lee McCall went over the budget with supervisors. The hospital board of trustees had approved the budget earlier.

• Gave approval for the Sheriff’s Department to dispose of accumulated weapons via destruction and sale. Also, supervisors acknowledged the receipt of remaining informant fees totaling $885, and the removal of a portable radio from the department’s inventory. Supervisors acknowledged a memorandum of understanding with the Mississippi Department of Finance & Administration.

• Gave approval for the Sheriff’s Department to accept an Alcohol and Drug Impaired Driving Grant for Fiscal Year 2022 totaling $37,453. Supervisors also approved a resolution for the sheriff’s department to proceed with the application for a Mississippi Office of Head Start grant.

• Acknowledged the total loss of a 2015 Ford Police Interceptor from the Sheriff’s Department which had been involved in a wreck.

• Approved $30,000 for the purchase of a digital hand printing machine for the Sheriff’s Department.

• Approved an amendment to the interlocal agreement for providing school resource officers which would include overtime and benefits for athletic events.

• Approved a travel reimbursement request for Sheriff Eric Clark totaling $361.

• Accepted the August 2021 daily meal log and detailed billing report from the jail. Supervisors also approved for a jail employee to move from full-time to part-time status.

• Accepted the resignation of a Road Department employee, and approved the hiring of another. Supervisors approved the replacement of a culvert at Neshoba Central High School between the bus barn and the baseball field.

• Approved a letter of certification for the Mississippi State Extension Service. Supervisors also approved the yearly update and consulting services with Tri-State Consulting and the Tax Assessor/Collector at a cost of $1,500.

• Approved the employee health insurance coverage for FY2022.

• Approved the two appointments for the Sixth Chancery Court District. Maryann Costa was named court reporter with a salary of $64,000 plus benefits. Neshoba County will be responsible for 20 percent of her salary. Kenny Spencer was named Youth Intervention Court Coordinator effective Sept. 1. His salary will be $48,500 plus benefits. Also, supervisors approved Winston County’s request for reimbursement of office expenses for Judge Kirk totaling $273.

• Approve travel and registration expenses for Deputy Medical Examiner Myron Williams to attend MSCMEA fall conference on the Coast.

• Approve for the purchase of the equipment for the new Next Generation 9-1-1 Grant for Emergency Management, This includes two new console stations, text to 911, the rapid SOS Integration and a new login recorder.

• Approved the termination of local emergency declarations from the Winter Ice Storm and Hurricane Ida. Supervisors accepted the county’s emergency sheltering support plan.

• Approved a refund for use of the Multi-Purpose Room at the Coliseum due to COVID-19 concerns. Supervisors also approved for Philadelphia High School to use the Coliseum for graduation ceremonies on May 26, 2022.

• Approved the county employee payroll ending Aug. 23 and totaling $218,786.

• Approved the elected officials’ payroll ending Sept. 1 and totaling $43,525.

• Approved the claims docket and the out of claims docket. Supervisors also accepted the purchase clerk’s August 2021 report.

• Approved requisition authority for the Extension Service office.

• Approved the payment of $17,278 to Schneider Electric.

• Approved the Final Disbursement Request to Bank of America for the Energy Project, totaling $16,056.28. and.

• Approved the payment of $1,800 to the Mississippi Association of Supervisors for annual membership dues.
