CHOCTAW — Dr. Walt Willis, M.D., has been named Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at the Choctaw Health Center (CHC), it was announced on Monday.

A Tribally operated facility providing comprehensive medical services to members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Dr. Willis’ appointment is effective Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Dr. Willis is an experienced physician and health care executive with a decades-long proven record of success in providing exceptional health care, the Tribe said, and he is committed to advancing quality patient outcomes in the areas of family, emergency, and hospital medicine.

Dr. Willis most recently served as the Medical Director of Rush Health Critical Access Hospitals and Primary Care Clinics.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Willis join the Choctaw Health Center team as the CMO,” said Mary Harrison, Interim Health Director. “We are excited to see the benefits his hard work will have on the community.”

Dr. Willis brings more than 36 years of leadership experience and extensive knowledge as a practicing physician, a critical component to meeting the needs of our community,” said Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben.

“I am confident in Dr. Willis’ ability to provide solid direction to our medical staff and to continue providing high standards of quality health care to the Tribal public we serve.”

Dr. Willis’ responsibilities as Chief Medical Officer will include overseeing all aspects of CHC’s clinical areas and quality initiatives that advance the health mission to provide the highest level of healthcare to the Tribal communities and patient population.

A native of Neshoba County, Dr. Willis is the son of Mary Lewis Willis of Philadelphia and the late Joe Louis Willis.
