District 18 senate race on Tuesday
Voters in Senate District 18 will head to the polls Tuesday to choose a new state senator to fill the seat vacated by Jenifer B. Branning.
Gov. Tate Reeves called the special election in February, following Branning’s resignation after her election to the state Supreme Court. Her resignation became effective on Jan. 6.
The candidates on the ballot include Neshoba County residents Lane Taylor, Jackson “Ike” Melton, Marty Sistrunk, and Lindsey Kidd, as well as Mark Forsman of Winston County.
While Mississippi law requires all candidates in special elections to run as independents, Taylor, Melton, Sistrunk, and Forsman have indicated they would serve as Republicans if elected.
Kidd, who identifies as a conservative, has previously stated he would remain independent if elected.
