A two-car wreck that sent three to the hospital on Highway 16 west of the Pearl River Resort detoured traffic for about an hour Thursday afternoon.

According to Sheriff Eric Clark, deputies were called to the scene near the intersection with Road 147 at about 1:12 p.m.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“We served a support role,” Clark said.

Reportedly, a black Dodge Avenger carrying two females attempted to turn onto Highway 16 west, failed to yield to oncoming traffic, and was hit by a black Dodge Challenger headed eastbound on Highway 16, Clark said.

A deputy at the scene described the wreck as “nearly a head-on collision.”

Clark said one of the females in the Avenger was transported to the Choctaw Health Center due to the severity of her injuries. Neshoba EMS transported the other two involved to the county hospital.

Clark said that the scene was cleared after about an hour.

A Choctaw Police officer was detouring eastbound Highway 16 traffic down Road 149.
