Funeral services for Coweela Loyola Harbour George were held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 2 p.m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating. Burial followed in Tucker Cemetery in DeKalb, MS. Visitation was held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 1 p.m. until service time at McClain-Hays Funeral Home.

Mrs. George,87, of DeKalb, MS, died December 31, 2022 at Philwood Suites in Columbus, MS.

Coweela was born on March 27, 1935 to the late Ida Florence Mars Harbour and Samuel Chester “Chess” Harbour in Kemper County, MS. She married Robert L. “Bubba” George on February 1, 1953 before graduating from Cleveland High School that spring. She had to forego attending cosmetology school because Robert had been laid off from his job, but that did not prevent her from using her skills on family members and friends. Coweela continued to help support her family in various occupations; clerk at Jean’s Hosiery and Handbags in Jackson, MS, waitress at the DeKalb Hotel Café, and the manager of City Jewelry in DeKalb, MS to name a few.

Survivors include, her daughter, Diann (Mike) Carter; son, Robert Michael George; grandchildren, Jesse Carter, Christopher (Pegan) Carter, Katelynn (Zac) Buckingham and Price George; great-grandchildren, Caleigh, Abbey and Hannah Carter, and Reid Neyman; sister, Debra (Fred) Porter; numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Mrs. George is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert George; parents, brother, Albert “Sonny” Harbour; sister, Anna Floretta “Teency” Harbour.
