The April 2022 unemployment rate in Neshoba County stayed about the same as the previous month, dropping one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.8 percent, according to figures from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

The unemployment rate in March   stood at 3.7  percent. That’s a drop of 2 percentage points when compared to April 2021.

This follows the trend in East Mississippi.

The unemployment rate represents the number of unemployed people as a percentage of the civilian labor force for the county.

The Neshoba County labor force was 10,110 people in April, an increase of 40 people when compared to the previous month. There were 380 unemployed people in April, an increase of 10 when compared to last month, meaning 30 more people were employed.

Mississippi’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2022 was 3.6 percent, increasing one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month’s rate of 3.5 percent. When compared to the April 2021 rate of 5.9 percent, the rate decreased 2.3 percentage points. The number of unemployed decreased 1,300 over the month, while the employed total increased 700 from the prior month. The Nation’s unemployment rate for April 2022 at 3.3 percent was down five-tenths of a percentage point from 3.8 percent in March 2022 and 2.4 percentage points from 5.7 percent in April 2021.

Mississippi’s nonfarm employment increased 1,300 over the month and 27,500 over the year. The Leisure & Hospitality sector had the largest employment gain.

For the month of April 2022, 34 counties in Mississippi posted unemployment rates less than or equal to the state’s rate of 3.6 percent. Rankin and Union counties posted the lowest unemployment rate for the month of April at 2.5 percent. Jefferson County had the highest unemployment rate for April at 11.9 percent .
