County absorbing trash cost increase

Neshoba County will be paying slightly more to dispose of garbage beginning Nov. 1, but residents won’t see an increase, officials said.

County crews pick up the garbage in Neshoba County and the garbage is dumped in a landfill owned by Waste Pro and located in Kemper County.

The new price is an increase of 3.48% or 56 cents per ton bumping the cost up to $16.63 per ton. The new rate will be effective Nov. 1, the Board of Supervisors agreed on Monday.

“There is a provision in the contract for them to be able to move it based on the consumer price index,” said County Administrator Jeff Mayo.

In other matters in Monday’s meeting, supervisors:

• Approved an amended interlocal agreement with the Neshoba County Schools concerning resource officers. Supervisors also approved the removal of a Motorola Mobile Radio from the Sheriff’s inventory. They approved $500 for pre-trial intervention in a pending case.

• Accepted bids for a used brush chipper from Vermeer of Jackson for $35,498.

• Approved school bus turnarounds for the Neshoba County Schools for the 2021-2022 school year.

• Approved requisition authority for Joseph “Jay” Brown, new county director for the Department of Human Services.

• Approved the board schedule for the months of October, November and December.
