Cookbook set to raise funds for VFW

Army Veteran Susan Shoffner is putting together a cookbook that will honor veterans and raise money for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4396.

Shoffner is in the process of gathering recipes. She has around 100 and needs 200 to 300.

"I will take as many as we can get," Shoffner said.

She said some of the recipes may be dedicated to veterans and can include photos.

"We will include their names, rank and dates of service," Shoffner said. "We will put it on top of the recipe. They can include a picture if they want.

"I am going to put my mom's Bismarck doughnut recipe in honor of my father," she said. "He loved her Bismarks. It is like a doughnut without the hole and you fill it with cream."

She added that recipes will be also accepted even if there is no veteran in the family.

Food categories will include meats, casseroles, vegetables, desserts and breads.

"My intention is to raise funds," Shoffner said. "We need a new roof on the VFW post. We have a post service officer who needs supply."

No date for publication has been set at this time.
