A late-night traffic stop in rural Neshoba County netted the arrest of a convicted felon on methamphetamine, paraphernalia and a firearm charges last week.

Tywanda “Ty” Norton, 43, of 13181 Highway 21 north, was arrested and charged with careless driving, possession of marijuana-first offense, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said.

Neshoba County deputies stopped a careless driver of a gold Lincoln Town Car on County Road 347 near Mt. Olive Baptist Church between the Deemer and Beatline communities east of Tucker late Thursday. Norton was arrested and booked into the jail just after 1 a.m. on Sept. 11.

Clark said that the traffic stop netted more than two grams but less than 10 grams of methamphetamine, less than 30 grams of marijuana, a .22-caliber handgun, over $1,000 in cash and several pieces of paraphernalia.

Norton was taken to the Neshoba County Detention Center. He bonded out on a total $20,800 on Monday. Norton received his highest bond, $15,000 for the possession of a controlled substance charge, $800 for the marijuana charge and $5,000 for the firearm charge.

Norton has appeared in the county jail docket since 2007 on charges ranging from trespassing to possession of methamphetamine.
