It is with profound grief and sadness we announce the passing of Connie Munn, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who touched the lives of everyone she met. Ms. Munn, affectionately known by her family and those who knew her best as Mammie, passed away at her home on June 8, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was 97.

Ms. Munn lived the majority of her life in the House Community in Neshoba County, MS and was married to JH “Hop” Munn, who preceded her in death on July 5th, 2012. She was known far and wide for her special “Strawberry Jelly” and if you ever had the chance of meeting her, she probably offered you a jar to take home.

Mammie was happiest when she was working in her garden. It was her passion in life to work the earth and grow vegetables that she would gladly share with anyone who stopped by. For many years, she kept an alarm set at 4:45 am so she could begin her day trying her best to beat the grueling Mississippi heat. She was able to continue to maintain her own garden until she was 95 and even on her last days on earth it was that garden that gave her the hope and the strength to continue on.

As a mother, she worked at a factory to provide for her children and in fact, she actually kept a job cleaning health clinics in the area until she was about 87 years old. She was also a female entrepreneur and opened her own business, Connie’s Custom Curtain’s, in the 1980s. Many of your family members in this community probably had ruffled country curtains or bedspreads that were handmade by her.

More than anything, Mammie loved. She loved her family and her dogs with all of her heart and she was our sweet angel and now we know she is resting with the angels praising her savior and reunited with her husband, Hop, mother, Gladys Roberts, father, Jimmy Roberts and her sisters, Ruby Lee Burks, Jacqueline “Jack” Galloway and Bernadette Seals.  We know that her fur babies are right at her feet and she is joyously reunited with Bully, Little Bully and Jack – the true loves of her life, if we are being honest.

She leaves behind her sweet sister, Louise Williams, daughter, Syble and husband, Ricky Smith, son, Robert and wife, Ann Munn, daughter, Tricia and husband,  Jimmie Joyner and her baby, Brenda and husband, Steve Cheatham.

She has a trove of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild that will forever hold her in their hearts: Windy (Patrick) Luttrell , Sundy (Brad) Bounds, Brandi (Jeff) Putman, Amanda Joyner, Heather (Tyler) Marks, Lindsey (Bo) Burkes, Nick (Toni), Tanner and Maggie Luttrell, Ryan (Samantha) Gardner, Blaine (Sejin) Gardner, Ella, Miller and Sutton Marks, Hayes, Jones Burkes and Remi Gardner.

She also loved her extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews – many of whom called and stopped by to check on her on a regular basis.

The family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to Shirley McKnight who helped the family to give extraordinary and loving care to Mammie in the final months of her life. Shirley, we thank you for loving her like she was your family.
