Cliff was born in Greenville and considered the Mississippi Delta home; after retiring he moved to a country home on the outskirts of Yazoo City. A graduate of Delta State University where he majored in Art, he went on to have a varied career ranging from working for the US Postal Service, crewman on a river boat, member of the Mississippi Air National Guard, operations manager for an oilfield services company, and manager of the Philadelphia office of Vocational Rehabilitation.

His hobbies included creating hand-thrown pottery, painting, photography, and firearms. After retirement he became involved with and moderated several online firearms forums, and was an invaluable resource for members on a multitude of topics.

He was prone to lengthy conversations whether in person or on the telephone and was known to draft letters and emails that rivaled small novellas in their detail and lack of brevity in wording. A telephone call from Cliff was one in which the recipient had best have hours to spare and be prepared to discuss varied subjects.

Survived by Sons; Joey and his partner Ami of Lumberton, TX , Jeff and wife Dawn of Philadelphia, MS , Josh and wife Angela of Pearl , MS.  He is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his beloved 4 legged companion “Kitty”.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William L. Goodwin Jr., and ex-wife Betty Hardy Tanner.
