City man charged with statutory rape in July
A Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged with the statutory rape of a juvenile female in July, the authorities said.
Quandaries S. Matthews, 21, 10421 Road 854, was arrested and charged with statutory rape on Friday, Sept. 23, just before 12 p.m.
Jail records show Matthews was out on a $25,000 bond the following morning.
Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark said the mother of the juvenile victim reported that her daughter who was under the age of 15 at the time had been involved in a sexual act with an adult male aged 20. Clark said the incident reportedly happened “on or about” that date.
Matthews was identified as the suspect and initially denied the incident took place. Calrk said after an investigation and official interview with the victim, an affidavit for Matthews’ arrest was signed on Sept. 7.
Clark said the two met on social media.
“We are seeing an increase in these crimes starting on social media,” Clark said.
